I would imagine that stainless steel pop rivets are likely to be too powerful for the fibreglass of the hull (but I would like to hear from others if this is correct). Why not buy the proper rivets from Windsport? See under Suppliers on this website.

Yes, sounds familiar. More embarrassingly I think that was the Nationals where I tried to mount one of the large buoys and got it stuck between the 2 hulls and I was stuck for some time....
That was quite an event. Three days of quite strong breeze with some very close racing all the way through. Day 1 was type 2 fun but day 2 was just champagne sailing.
