Erling's a hero [Bob]

We had a really good open meeting at Halifax - our thanks go to the Halifax S.C. for putting on a good event with some challenging gusty winds.
Erling was (by far) the guy who travelled furthest - he travelled 280 miles each way and with the ferry it took about 7-8hrs each way.
7 local boats took part (a good % of the Halifax fleet) but the biggest disappointment was we only got 3 travellers from Northern Clubs taking part. We desperately need you to support local events when they come your way - otherwise we will just end up with a Southern Circuit.

With Golden G not attending Halifax, Erling was overheard talking to Ray Gall. Ray said - well if Golden is not coming to the Northern Events then you (Erling) can have his room for the Carsington Event. Well Ray has never had such an attentive trolley dolly as Erling was for the rest of the weekend!!!!!!!!

I got a right earbashing when I got home from Halifax last night, Liz exclaimmed, "that poor nice man Erling travelling all that way 560 miles to see his friends in the arctic circle" sorry Golden G but as a regular visitor to the North I'm told Erling has the guest bedroom for the Carsington Open as he needs a proper rest, you are cordially invited to have the lounge / dining room floor.....!

When presented with the possibility of sleeping in the Clubhouse, some of the visitors perked up a bit.
But the mere sight and disappearance of one tiny mouse (not even a tenth of a rat) was enough to scare them into their cold cars only to be drummed awake later by the overnight hail/rain on their roofs.
But even better was the reaction of the man whose pocketed mobile announced the arrival of a text with a repeated squeak when the mouse had just disappeared! At least he had the gumption to sleep in the Clubhouse....

But a really good weekend's sailing and apres sail was missed by far too many.... Shame

Gordon replied:

Thank you dear friend for your kind offer. Unfortunately I was stuck with my nose at the grindstone trying to earn enough for a dry crust.
I understand poor Erling's plight and he's a very nice man and he's also a tad older than me so he'll need the extra looking after. So I don't mind making the sacrifice. But I'm still ready to reciprocate when ever you feel ready to come to the sunny south. I know how much you and Liz love camping so my ?6.99 Tesco tent is ready and waiting. Just the thing for when you come down to Queen Mary in February. But bring a few blankets just in case it gets cold..
