slowing down

Hi odd question but does any one have any tips on slowing the boat down?
sometimes when aproaching the start I need to slow up ,letting the main off seems to increase the sail camber which gives me s short squirt of speed just when I dont need it ,If I point up I usually over cook it and stall or go into irons and generally make a nuicence of myself!

Either waggle the tiller or put one leg in the water.

Try arriving at the start line facing the wrong way with your mainsheet unhooked and your mainsail wildly flapping all over the place.
Doesn’t work for me, but I notice it slowed Bob down considerably on Sunday, in fact I believe he was last over the start line!!

Hi,
Couple of things to try if not already,
1) sit right at the back of the boat with your bum over the rear beam housing that drags the stern and lifts the bow allowing it to get blown away from the wind to stop getting in irons. Make sure you move forward as you accelerate out of the start!!

2)Traveller off so the sail is more into wind than the boat, this works well but you need to have a smooth system when sheeting in and accelerating when you need to.

If you come into the start too high (wrong angle) heaven or hell cannot help you then.
