Yesterday I picked another boat, 1933, which was in bits. I had ambitious plans of popping down early this morning and putting the boat together in time for the 11 am handicap race, as the race time arrived I had to panic and get the old boat rigged and change in time. It was a 2 hour race where the slowest start first and the fastest last, thus you finish in your final position, an ace race in strong winds big waves, half the dinghies dropped out and I wasn’t quite slowest cat.
Then back to putting boat together, didn’t go as well as it might as there is no bridle so was unable to put the mast up.
What is very confusing is that when I tried taking the bridle off my old boat, under the watchful eye of it's new owner, I still couldn't put the mast up because the fore shroud came right down to the jib furling bit so that the string that you use to give variable tension to the rigging could not be used. I measured old/new shrouds, the masts and both boats are set with the shroud attached to the third down hole. Thus I fail to see how it can be attached, if the missing bridle is shorter then that might work but it would mean the attachment points to the hulls should be different and yet they seemed to be the same. Attaching it straight to the furling bit would leave it slack and with no adjustment.
Has something changed between 1988 and 2000 models?
