Hi Folks,
The next issue of the Magazine is on it's way to you and should arrive in the next day or so. If yours doesn't for any reason, say by the end of the week, let me know. The overseas readers may have to wait a little longer.
I do hope you all enjoy reading it. I posted them first thing on Saturday morning on the way back from an appointment with my consultant which I had made the other day following a bout of, what I can only descibe as, feeling a bit odd. After examination, he said that there was nothing at all to worry about but that he could detect a mild case of daetritis, a condition I had never heard of. Apparently it's something that can affect all of us at some stage although the further north you live the more susceptble you are. The main symptoms are a loss of sense of time. This all fits, as last week I turned up for a meeting a whole 7 days early! - very strange! The condition can also be brought on by stress and looking at computer screens for too long - so, I am now having a rest and switching my computer off for a while.

Daetritis, the condition can become very serious and complete rest is necessary to prevent the condition moving into it's second and more devastating stage of Annual Daetritis, this is where the patient turns up for a meeting a full 52 weeks in advance.

Southerners may not of heard of this affliction but altitude and the cold of the north does take it's toll.

There are some who will take the "Mick" (I am not one of those) this should not be tollerated, the patient should be given TIME to recover and complete understanding from his Sprint 15 sailing colleagues.

Suggest George, turn off all land line / mobile / internet communications and retire to your pit with a rather nice single malt.

I'll give you a call when all the P*** taking has stopped!

I don't suffer from the illness, but I've been taking the medicine...just in case.

Well I got my copy of the magazine and it is really excellent - all in colour too. Well done George.
It even includes an expose' of our treasurer, Golden Goldstone. We could run a book on who the under cover reporters were, but it might be a bit easy for those "in he know".

I support George having a well earned rest from the computer - at least until the next issue.

Yes, great job George.

I've only looked at the pictures so far... I went straight to p11, thought it might have been a double spread, but then realised Bob had written " exposé " !!

I also wondered if our ed. had picked the Dutch man for the 30th anniversary front cover due to him being born in the same year as the Sprint, but I'm reliably informed that Kevin is 2 years younger than that.

Then I thought well maybe it was the splash of colout & sartorial elegance that put him up front... or was ed. even thinking of the next 30 years of Sprinting & the possibility that those brightly covered loins might produce a future generation of Sprinters... you decide !

Dutch: a curious word. It denotes someone or something from Holland. We have all sorts of strange phrases like, going dutch, a dutch wife, double-dutch, dutch auction, dutch uncle, dutch hoe, I'm a dutchman etc. And now we have to add another, Kevin Dutch!

"My old dutch" is also slang for one's wife. Hence the music hall song that goes:

We've been together now for thirty years
And it don't seem a day too much.
There ain't a lady in the land
As I'd swop for my dear old Dutch.

I'm really impressed with the mag - very high quality and I'm going to start putting them in binders when I get enough. Perhaps the committee could consider getting some nice embossed binders made up for us to buy?
Very good article on righting by Bob, and an interesting one on the mast ball-joint's potential problems. These "how to" articles are what I look forward to, and I'm sure they're very much appreciated by others.

Thanks to all who have posted such positive and encouraging comments about the Mag. It is much appreciated that it was so well recieved. I enjoyed producing it very much. I particularly liked some of the non-racing stories -Duncan - the C.R.A.P. story was truly brilliant - so let's have a few more from others, please.
I presently have an opening for the 'Undercover Reporter's post - although there are a few candidates eager for the job I can cope with more than one.
Some new 'Tip Bits' would be welcomed.
To some of our new members - how about a blog on your first year in the Association? What's it been like getting to grips with the boat? Have you been to any events and how was it?
What's happening at your club? Is there any training for potential cat sailors, old or young.
Has anyone taken their boat abroad? What were the highs and lows of trailing and sailing whether you were going to an event or just on holiday?
Are there any requests for specific articles?
Whether you're into racing or pleasure sailing, I would like to ensure we keep the Mag. how you want to see it, so I'm open to all ideas. If you've got an idea for an article but haven't the time to put it together, I'd be happy to do the compilation from your thoughts.
As for my previously reported affliction, I can report that I'm cured - in fact I never had it at all. I've sacked my consultant - I think he was more of a quack- for completely wrong diagnosis! I do believe, however, that Erling has had a mild dose and that Ray may be coming down with it. Keep taking the medicine - Gordon has a very efficacious prescription for it, I see.

P.S. So why did Kevin Dutch make the front cover? Simple - he was the new TT champ and it is a great action picture with some superb detail- taken by whom I know not, but it also appeared in 'Dinghy' magazine.

I did point out that this is no laughing matter though, and that the sad practice of "self-wedge" or, in its extreme form, "auto-wedgification", is fairly widespread; usually indulged in by politicians and high court judges, trying to rekindle the erotic abuse of their public school days
