I think you'll find Graham that a lot of people like to switch around between Standard and Sport sailing. For example last week at Queen Mary I was out una-rig and hiking, this Sunday I'll be out on the wire for our club winter series. It's horses for courses and it's one of the benefits we have with our design.

Well I think you've convinced me. Just trying to set up a trial sail at Draycote Water. Then just the small issue of selling my current boat and buying a Dart 15. So if there is anyone out there with a late good condition/nearly new Dart 15 who might be interested in taking a Laser Vortex in part exchange drop me a line on graham.collett@yahoo.co.uk. Boat is advertised on Laser site and class association site for details.

Good Show [Bob]

Bob replied:

Good show. Do you have the Draycote contacts? If not I can give you some EMail addresses for the Sprint 15 owners at Draycote. Othewise, if you dont't mind the ride, I can set up for a demo at Grafham sometime.
Regards
Bob
I hear that the Draycote Sprint 15 guys (there are 7) have got out of the habit of regularly sailing on Sundays. It would not take much stimulus from one keen guy to get them, going again, though.

SPORTING REACHES ON THE WIRE

Post by Robert »

I just found this thread because I was a bit put out at Grafham last weekend when the una rig boats were going as fast as the sport rig boats on reaches. I think it is a good thread with some great advice which could be useful for those thinking of going to Instow later this year. Effectively, trapezing was necessary on the reaches of the second and fourth legs of the course on Sunday in order not to lose ground via the handicap of PY 883 v. PY 916 which benefits the Unarig boats. I didn't do this and lost out, except for a short while on one lap when I overtook my mate Ray to leeward. I was on the wire and he wasn't. When my bows were in front I decided to come inboard and he promptly overtook me again. Basically the sport rigs seemed a bit overpowered and gained little advantage on the reaches. Perhaps this thread might help a few of us to go for it a bit more in F4/5 (or more, maybe) leading up to the Sport Nationals this year?
