Next TT event 20 21st June at ODC

Post by Keith Bartlett »

After all the excitement of the Sports Nationals, why not come down and sample the relaxed, laid back way of life at the Open Dinghy Club, who are hosting the next TT event.
What we lack in such modern things as showers and a bar, we more than make up for by being friendly, and generally easygoing.
After the Racing, on Saturday evening there is the usual ODC BBQ, ( bring your own beer).
You can camp out in the dinghy park or kip in your car, then wake up to a hot bacon roll from Jane's beach side kiosk.
Our local group of 15 sailors are getting in some crafty practice at a 15 "Teach in" the weekend before the event, but in reality we expect you "travellers" you show us the way home.
So why not come down and join us on 20 21st June?

Cheers

Keith

Southern Area Championship at ODC 20-21st June

Post by Keith Bartlett »

We have been beavering away in preparation for our TT event this coming w/end- including doing some on water training on Saturday- shame that the tide was stronger than the wind- anway those that took part enjoyed it.
I have just seen the first forecast for the w/end. 14 mph winds and sunshine- what more do you need!
If you are coming, when you turn into our field, depending on how busy it is, you may be better to unload in the dinghy compound or on the beach itself.

Any questions, please get back to me.

Cheers

Erling,

I'll definitely be there this weekend.
I've just come back from holiday, but the boat's already packed, ready to go.
One of my favourite venues.

ps. Feel free to bring as much money as you can, always ready to receive.

See you there.

Southern Area Championships Day 1 results

Post by Keith Bartlett »

We got in the planned three races, in F3/F4 winds , but some overcast skies.

Stewart Pegum won race 1, from Erling , who was caught napping at the start, and chased the pack like mad to make up over a minute's deficit.

Erling had the bit between his teeth for the first race after the lunch break, which he won from ODC's Chris Rickard. Race 3 had the same result. Gordon Goldstone came 3rd in each race- consistency itself.

Notable antics seen included Keith Chidwick making a memorable rugby tackle on the rear of his fifteen, as it sailed away helmless from the beach before the 2nd race.

So it's all to play for on Sunday- will Erling make it to be Southern Champion? or have ODC got some secret weapons still in store.

Bet you all wished you had come down to see for yourselves!

Cheers

A full review of the TT , together with some pictures will appear shortly, however in the meantime the headline results were:

First and the new Southern Area Champion- Erling Holmberg Shanklin
2nd Chris Rickard ODC
3rd Gordon Goldstone Queen Mary
4th Stuart Pegum Oxford SC
5th Keith Chidwick Queen Mary
6th Alan Welman ODC
The final two races were sailed today, with F2/F3 winds, and a much calmer sea than on Saturday. The sun did make the odd apearance. Erling powered off and lead each race pretty much from the off, though there was quite a bit of swopping about of the lower orders.
Altogether a most enjoyable TT event.

Cheers

Well done, Erling. A worthy winner!

With "Freddie" third from last, the competition must have been better than the numbers suggest. Anyhow, a win is a win and nobody was better.

Andrew.
