Is there any club / resort / campsite / in the UK where I can sail and camp at/near the water's edge for a few nights and ablution facilities are available?
This is probably the best source of information for your needs. It helps to be a member of The Camping and Caravanning Club and pay an extra fiver to be in the Boating Group, but not absolutely necessary, I believe. http://www.boating-group.org.uk/frames.htm
(You could also try the Sail Camping Association.)
The Boating Group has information about places such as Loch Lomond and Rosemarkie, where you can also watch the dolphins if you missed out at Swanage (like I did during my "tactical rest"!).
Rutland Water has a camp site next to the club but the facilities are at the club. This must apply to many sailing clubs, I guess.
I'm a member of the C+CC boating group and they do have many meets around the country-unfortunately not all for Cats-but at many of them you also need your own sanitation
There is a campsite just by Rutland sailing club - as Robert said-you can pay for a days sailing or there is Whitwell over by the dam.
Campsite also at Bala on shores of lake - I'm off there this weekend- the cat club is next door-there are basic facilities
The C+CC has many sites near water-eg Loch Lomond where you can launch
Waterside farm on the south side of Ullswater. camped there a couple of years ago- joint family affair with the Sprint 15, Laser 2000 and a B14 (oh yes, a couple of ironing boards as well) we parked all the boats beside the tents, and the showers were fine. You could pitch your tent right on the edge of the lake if you want.
Further north- Findhorn on the Morayshire coast. Boat can be berthed max 5 minutes walk from the campsite. (Ask Simon at Findhorn Marina) Not unlike Instow- lots of water at high tide, with not very much at Low, but you can sail out to sea. There last year. Sun and a cracking breeze, day after day. Lovely location, and deep fried Mars bars available in the chippie! (not that I tried one)
Pentewan - spiritual home of the Dart.
Carnac. YC will accept visiting cats. Mine still has the the Carnac YC sticker on the transom. Virtually every boat in the club is a cat. Campsite is about 10 minutes walk away through the town. Quite large, busy but fine with a swimming pool.
Il de Re. French Island close to La Rochelle. Gorgeous sandy island with a picturesque capital. Brilliant for cycling and beach holidays. Stayed at a site on the south side of the island, with the boat on the beach- 2 minutes from campsite entrance. Enjoyed it so much, we even did it twice.
We also tried a site on the west side of Lake Garda, once upon a time. Boat was kept by the tent. Not a sucess- site was a bit too far south for reliable breeze. It was so hot, with virtually no wind all week. And Garda is a long drive- or at least compared with some of the other suggestions!
Hope this helps. If you want any more specific info, just ask.
very nice.Boat launching slip big enough for a 15. We
