The last of the Summer TT Series - Grafham 22-23 October

Post by Bob Carter »

Just a quick reminder it is the Grafham Cat Open on 22-23 October and the last regatta of our summer series.
The Sprint 15s will do 5 races - 3 back to back on Saturday afternoon and 2 back to back on Sunday morning. Other classes are doing 6 races with 3 on the Sunday. This enables the Sprint 15s to have a separate prizegiving early while the other classes complete their 6th race.
So we should get away before the rush.

The NOR has been posted on the Club website (a link is provided below)
The event is based on what we have done over the last couple of years. This year we are not insisting on pre-entry but will be charging a £10 premium for those that enter on the day. We hope that most will pre-enter by noon on Friday to enable us to enter the competitors properly in Sailwave and to enable us to allocate separate stick on sail letters to those with duplicate sailnumbers. This helps us with fast and accurate preparation of the results at the end of the event but we reckon we can manage OK if the majority pre-enter.

On the Saturday evening we are doing the same as we have done the last couple of years. That is to serve a 2 course meal in the upstairs bar and show sailing dvds on the big screen. Showing the dvds gives people something to watch but does not stop conversation like discos and the like. We urge the competitors to book their meal when they enter. Details are on the Notice of Race.

During the last 2 years of the Grafham Cat Open (2009 and 2010) we have suffered from vandalism and significant damage being inflicted on both GWSC and village property mainly in the evenings of Friday and Saturday. This has been very troublesome and reflects pooly on GWSC with our neighbours in the village. The Grafham Water Sailing Club Council has decided that if we get similar problems again then the Cat Open will not be run in future years so they have asked me to pass this message on to the representatives. As you will appreciate we desperately do not want this to be the situation. I would grateful if you can spread the word around your fleet to be on good behaviour such that the Cat Open can continue for many years to come. (I'm sure that the Sprint 15 fleet were not responsible but I have been requested to notify all fleets).

Regards

Bob Carter

Hi Simon,
I have got the info. The Club grounds will be open on Friday night so you can drop your boat off. There will be Fish and Chips available from a van out side the club from 4.30pm to 7.00pm. The bar will be open during the evening and the toilets will be open through the night.
Cheers

Would it be possible to leave the boats at Stewartby after the Grafham event as it's only two weeks between the two?

Erling - I've had a number of enquiries over the last couple of days asking for the same thing. No problem - we've room in the dinghy-park for people coming to us 2 weeks later and want to leave their boats at Stewartby.

I'll write a separate post with the details.

Can we have a show of hands for interest in a beer or two on Saturday night at GWSC top bar please..

There is a meal in the club house as normal, although I'll be off home for a hot bath and rub down as it's gonna be windy!! Will be back for a pint or two in the evening though so I'll start:

Aiming to arrive about 7.30 on Friday, might see you in top bar before cooking some tea.

Good attendance of 37 boats sailed 3 races in perfect conditions (sunny and clear with a 15 mph wind gusting to 22mph). Stuart Snell is clear leader from Mark Aldridge with a number in contention for 3rd place. Quite a few capsizes - the most notable was Charles Watson when in 2nd place
Erling dropped his mast TWICE :?
All to sail for tomorrow.
