Hi All
Don't forget that 3rd December is the second round of the Sprint 15 Winter TT and first round of the DX Traveller event at Carsington. The first race is scheduled for 11am and there is a briefing at 10.15am, so make sure that it is in your diaries and you put your boats on the trailer in readiness this coming weekend.
Those of you who attended the Carsington Northern Championship in September will have noted the low reservoir level in the bay, this is still the case but once away from the launching area we still have an abundance of open/deep water, so it’s all systems GO
George, Robin & I look forward to greeting everyone with a warm welcome at Carsington and if you are thinking of sailing 2up the entry price is just the same as for a single helm £12:00 bargain
The CSC / DWSC “Inter Club Challenge” is according to clause 3, MAST rules ('Manufacture A Spurious Technicality) sub section 3.1, CRAP' (Consequential Re-allocation of Average Points) would suggest that CARSINGTON are one up in series thanks to a fantastic effort by George Love on & off the water and in particularly extensive research of the rules archive.......

Ref The Inter Club Challenge

I heard (possibly just hear-say) that a clause update had been put inplace regarding the 3.1 MAST section (pun) of the rules. Sub clause BENT (Brazen Exploitation of Non-existant Technicalities) had been included as an antidote to anyone trying to use MAST inappropriately. And regarding clause CRAP, it had infact been misspelt and not understood. CARP (Castington's Ability to Reappropriate Points) was a clause long since deemed void and forgotten. But as it was a tradition for them to 'CARP on' and on this occasion it would be allowed.

a classic moment that makes us laugh everytime we see it! 'Fly By Wire?' -

despite being traumatized by this lesson, i have managed to venture out onto the wire thanks to the tips that you and Ray went on to explain in great detail. Not sure i am safe to do it in competition mode. Ray knows i suffer from involuntary gybing when i am just sailing Una-rig!

Derek, so pleased to see that you are up and about and ready to lead the "James gang" from the front, although I still notice that you are having abacus problems again
To all visiting competitors, when you drive through the club gate turm imediately left and on to the beech in front of the monohul boat park, the tide is out..... and therefore plenty of room to leave your car/trailer for the remainder of the day.
Galley will be ready for breakfast from 09:00.

Yep - while protectiong your fruit from the cold don't forget about your nuts too. Talking about nuts, while Draycote are doing very well on the sailing side they seem to be loosing out on the debating aspect to team Carsington. Are you Carsington guys of Irish decent? The Blarney stone seems to be on your side.
Perhaps you can give them some pointers at the weekend ................

Hopefully the Carsington crew won't resort to calling off the event this year having dragged us all up there last year just so robert can add a few more miles to his calculations.

following the debate on whether George managed single handedly "win" the Draycote /Carsington duel at Stewartby [ good fun guys] , it reminded me that there are three types of Sprint 15 sailors.
1. Those that can count.
2. And those that cant.

Congratulations to Mark Aldridge who on his first visit to Carsington sailed superbly well in the ferocious conditions to win both races and the event
Thanks to all 23 combatents for a superb turnout on what was clearly going to be a interesting sail.......
Don't know about you but I slept like a log last night, nursing a few aches this morning after my two pitchpoles.....
Hope you all enjoyed the carsington hospitality and looking forward to seeing you all at Draycote in the New Year.

Thank You Carsington for such a super event. If Heineken did Sprint 15 open meetings.......

Like a few others, I tipped it in on my first effort on the top reach before race 1 start. It was at this point I realised the warnings on the water of a gust were not necessarily connected to the severity of the gust!

Yesterday was more about keeping the boat in control and being prepared to dump as much wind as possible when you were hit - and we all were - constantly.

I recall taking a moment probably about 40 mins into race 1 to have a scan around as I was in a relatively quiet part of course just about to round the windward mark. In front of me was Tom Gall who was somehow carrying the DX Main and jib along the top reach. Tom was in 'mid gust' mode and was out on the wire feet astride the rear beam, both sails flogging as he tried to spill wind and the boat up around 45 degrees +. Looked like Tom was having a good time to me!! Further on from Tom were two boats starting to bear away on to the run once again 'mid gust'. Both boats were going where the wind took them with simultaneous roosters from all 4 rudders ( I did have a polite chuckle to myself..) and I guess they were probably 30 deg' off course as a result. These first two sights were trumped by at least 4 boats upside down around the jibe mark and another boat capsized on the leeward shore. I don't know if anyone was over on the beat, but there way at least 5 boats all in the drink at the same time so a huge Thank You to the Carsington rescue fleet for being there.

Well done to everyone that went out on the water yesterday - it was a wild ride at times and it just goes to show what a great boat we have as the severity of some pitch poles I saw would have broken many a non Dart mast!!
