Flying pig in Hull serial number

Post by jwhackettuk »

While renovating a hull today I poked the camera on a string into the rear hatch to see what horrors might be there. Presumably the S. African builders had a sense of humour....

I think it was these muppets that bodged together some hulls and other bits at the time..

That's Erling Holmberg's old boat. He would have been amused to know he was sailing a Flying Pig. He was very happy about having James Bond's sail number... :-)

Hi Bob,
It is indeed Erlings boat. I aquired it late last year from the guy that bought it from him. It's having a bit of a make over. Years of sailing on Salt water have taken its toll it seems. It now lives at Bala Sailing club in North Wales.

Regards,
John

Hi John

Great to hear Erling's last boat has made it well & truly onto the North Island. We have his previous boat here in Halifax.

Bob is right, he would have thought the flying pig hilarious. I remember getting up to the club for our travellers event and finding him waiting at the gate with boat on roof. He did comment it was a bit chilly as he'd only brought a summer wetsuit. It's never summer at 53° 46' 48'' N & 1400ft ! Though he fully admitted he was a soft southerner! :D

I'll try to get to your Long Distance this year, we have our Regatta on the same weekend as your Cat Open I'm afraid.

Hi John

I had also noticed that you are the new owner of 2007, I own Erlings boat before that number 1959 now (Forever Young 2) at Halifax Sailing club as Charles has mentioned.

I am also thinking about doing the Long Distance race weekend and maybe the Cat open event too :)

The long distance event has become our most popular, everyone comes off the water absolutely knackered but elated at finishing. You are pretty much guaranteed to have a brilliant time. If you intend to do both days it's worth sorting accommodation out early as everywhere gets booked out.
Honest review on youtube of a previous event. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45pJExJQQl0

Any information you need just holler.
