I am intending to attend various events this year and will car
top my Dart due to not owning a trailer and selling my wife's car
which has (had) the tow bar.
Is there any particular
method or do I just have a go?
How long does it take? How
much of a nightmare is it?
right then, this is how I do it, it's not a bible or a
recommendation, just the way I do it. as well as tying the boat to
the roof rack, tie the rear of the boat down to the tow bar or say
the towing eye on the rear.not too tight. ideal is 6mm rope which
will go through the pintle then tie a thumb knot. do not tie too
tight at this point. put the beams and mast in between the hulls
then tie the fron through the chain plates, (a small shackle
in each aids this, tie the rope to the car so that they cross over
to either side, (you get the effect of cross hairs) and the idea
is to tension so that it is not too tight but providing fore and
aft and lateral support to the hulls. The smaller the car the
slower the speed (youll find out why) and watch out for maximum
roof rack wieht. remember tiening fore and aft slightly increased
the roof load. also hulls are arounf 32kgs, all up weight is
100kilos, the sails weigh a bit so they vcan goi inside. hope this
helps.
I covered about 20000milkes this way
