Hi Andrew
I melt the end till I have a larger lump then put tape round to build up to 12mm and the lump stops the tape moving.

Technically illegal, but increasingly members are using thinner rope & one could argue for safety reasons so that the sail dumps when required.

I will propose a change to the rules at the next AGM to allow any diameter mainsheet, or down to a minimum.

As per all set ups, this must be sailed with for the duration of the event (not the whole TT series), so using 5mm on a light wind day at the Nats & 10mm on another day would not be permissible.

Depending on how much thinner you could also try packing with a suitable piece of flexible tubing - possibly garden hose? And either slotting down one side to allow the hose to curl in on itself, or cutting strips to pack the channel with.

This could be a cheap way to get your extra blocks. This Dart 18 system on EBay is the same as the old Dart 15s but with a longer mainsheet

I see the whole mainsheet assembly fetched £21 - not much more than the cost of the rope. It was a cheap way of getting spares for the old block system.
