well I'm sailing 1150 here at shanklin, the port hull serial number is IC 429 but there doesn't appear to be one in the starboard hull, well not that I can see anyway, but I don't have cocktail cabinets in the hulls if that helps.
Keith Newnham.
Hi Keith,
I have one page of the Panthercraft records and clearly the boat that Andy Mac has should have been 1150. What's more it is a blue and white boat and as I recall yours is all white. Sadly hull IC429 is not on the page of records I have but there are several blanks with no hull numbers AND IC430, IC426, IC431 and many nearby numbers have sail numbers in the 1151-1166 range. I suspect that Performance Sailcraft (The Laser Centre) is the weakest link (no surprises there then). 1150 was sold to Performance sailcraft (as were many others). I suspect that they mixed up the sails and the hulls before the boats were sold to the customers.
Yours is therefore 1150 and I will tell Andy Mac what sail number to use which is very close to 1150. I need to discuss it with Brian Phipps or Ian Fraser before I make a recommendation. This leaves Andymac in tenterhooks for a few days but I want to do the right thing.
Regards
Bob
PS I see no comment on nasty green rudders - they must be out of class :wink:

only joking

Thanks Bob,
Seems like I've inadvertedly opened a can of worms.
I completely agree with your proposal that Keith should maintain 1150, and with your theory that Performance Sailcraft (Laser) are probably implicated in the mix up of sail No's at the point of sale.

I'd be happy to accept 1154, 1155, 1156 or 1168 which do not seem to have been assigned, if no one else lays claim to them.
Or I could always be assigned a brand new number ;) as per a precedent by the RYA with a boat in the Firefly class.

Footnote;
I've realised that the +200 difference between my hull No's/sail No(x2) in the 1150+ could be down to the introduction of 1C/2C designated hull numbers (circa 400 at that point). Perhaps this was down to the use of new moulds?

In the meantime, I'll carry on using 733, and wait to hear outcome before I edit the boat register again!

thanks for that Bob, not that I was particularly concerned, but at least "Bless its pointed little head" stays with the same number, oh, and of course those green rudders.
