I could do with the practice pre Instow and we may get more from the event if we're 'on the wire'.

Thoughts folks..
Hi Mark
This is not a very good strategy on a couple of counts:

1) The Sport mode gets a very poor handicap. The FFVoile Rating is a formula based handicap system vey similar to SCHRS. In fact many of the FFVoile ratings seem to be just 1000 times the SCHRS rating. As I have pointed out previously the Sport mode does not perform to the formula. The formula requires the Sport mode to be 8.7% faster that the standard una-rig mode yet we know from > 20 years of data that it is typically only 4% faster than the unarig mode. The Sport mode also needs to be no slower than 1.3% slower than a Dart 18 which is pretty tough. :?

2) If you enter in Sport mode you get put into Group 3 and have to complete against Dart 18s and all sorts. If you enter as a Unarig boat you will be put into Group 4. They say "If entry numbers are limited in a group they may amalgamate groups such as 3 and 4" and I think in the past it is Group 4 that has had small entries. If however we turn up with 15 Sprint 15 in Group 4 it seems to me that it will be much less likely to be merged with another group making it a predominantly Sprint 15 group. It is a good ploy for those with a crew to enter 2-up as Simon has spotted 2-up boats do get a better rating. :D
Cheers
Bob

PS An even worse thing to do would be to take a DX rig on their handicaps. If you did the DX would have to sail 16.6% faster than a unarig Sprint 15 AND 7.5% faster than a Dart 18.............. :? :? :? :?
..Unarig it is then!

according my past experience, it's a bit hard to successfully make YCT switching from one rating to an other...
I've tried to do so 2 years ago, saling races solo D18, and the raid with crew. I have done a written request to race comitee, that allows the change for the raid. (Un) fortunatly, for raid classification, I kept my solo rating for the raid (that is more favorable!)

Simon Giles is my favourite to win. Anyone else going to take a crew?

Hi All

I have had an email from Yacht Club de Carnac to say they are expecting to publish the notice of race and entry forms towards the end of February / beginning of March.

As soon as I have these I will arrange for them to go on the website.

Thanks

Paul

didn't know if you already gave this adress but a good solution for "family" stay there is to leave at the maeva.
It is 4 peoples self-catering appartements , very close to the club ("only the road to cross").

Hi Paul

I see that the Formula 18 Association claim to have the Notice of Race and the Entry Forms for Eurocat 2014, do you have any news on these please,

Good news for the Una-rig mode. The SCHRS rating has changed to 1.403 whilst the GTI rating (2-up) is 1.397 so the Una-rig has a softer rating. Sorry to anyone taking a crew but your advantage has receded :(

it is only a RYA membership proof.
don't wory for measurement certificate it is mainly for 18

2 things that are new this year:
- For each class, only one rating will be used for the whole regatta (race(s) and long distance).
- 3 red "handheld distress” flares which shall be shown during confirmation of registration.

Hi All

Just a quick update,

A big thank you to caracolito for obtaining the Notice of race and entry form and taking the time to put them on the site.

We now have 15 confirmed bookings to attend Eurocat which is fantastic,

If anyone else wishes to go there is still time to book a ferry and a B&B or camp site or in Sprint 15 style sleep in the car.

There are a few questions floating about regarding the entry to Eurocat, those that are going to Grafham this weekend could we catch up for 5 mins to draw up a list of question about Eurocat and chat about the long distance race.
We can then find out the answers and post the answers on here for all.

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul

I will not be at Grafham, most things seem reasonably clear with the entry form and notice of race but it would appear that the entry form and payments are made separately.
Is there an online entry and payment (credit card) system that I haved overlooked ?.

Have a good weekend at Grafham and I hope to be back racing at Marconi

Cheers

Hi

There is still time to sign up for Carnac.

Roll call to date of the famous 16 attending so far is, can we make it the travelling 20

Name Sail No
Stewart Pegum 1918
Stuart Snell 2016
Jon Pearse 1339
Thomas Sandal 1982
Simon Giles 1944
George Love 1825
Ray Gall 1914
Peter Richardson 1983
Kevin Kirby 1966
Steve Sawford 1733
Mark Aldridge 19
Gordon Goldstone 2004
Robert England 1351
Simon Hare 1970
Paul Craft 1267
Steve Petts

Some of those attending are looking to double up for travelling and for accommodation so if you are interested in attending you may be able to double up with someone which will keep the cost down.

Isle of Wight chaps what about doubling up with Simon or making up another double.

We are now starting to pull all the information and question together and will start a round robin email so all are kept up to date with information.

If you wish to be included or are interest in attending Carnac give me a call or email via the contact page.

Thanks

Paul
