I have to replace one (though will do both) of the chainplates on the bow as it is cracked from the leading edge to the screwhole.
I have received two new ones from the Laser Centre but they seem to be twice the thickness of the originals and will take a lot of effort to bend into shape. Is there any difference between the D15 & D18 chainplates? Have I got the wrong ones? Thanks.
I've just done this job myself. It's best if you remove only 2 of the screws, and only slacken the 3rd. You can then swivel the chainplate 90 degrees, this allows you to fit the new chainplate with 1 screw into 1 of the vacant holes. Then you can safely remove the last screw in the old chainplate and once its removed, swivel the new chainplate into position. This way the backing is always held by at least 1 screw.
You're right Paul, that was my old boat.
I new it was up for sale, the thing that really surprised me was that the advertised price was same as it was when I sold it 3 years ago !
That means 3 years of sailing and no depreciation, I wish my car did that.
I reckon that you need to change your chainplates because the Queen Mary 45 degree walls. I can just see you heaving your boat up and down that by the chainplates! I'm surprized that the front section of the bows have not come off in your hands!!
Cheers, Bob
PS my skegs are perfection itself.
PPS thanks for the list of punters
