I MUST have a split mast as I tow a caravan! I am looking at buying a 1996 boat with a one piece mast. In the past I have seen notes re suggested 'mast swap' could somebody give me some advice as to what to look out for, how much one would expect to pay for such a swap and is there any chance anybody would prefer a one piece to a two piece mast. Obviously just buying a two piece would be VERY expensive. Any suggestions from anybody, preferably in easy reach of the North West, (Lancs)

The one piece mast is in vogue at present. There is probably a (slight) performance advantage as it is lighter and it is not prone to taking in water.
You should not expect to pay any money. Just advertise for a swap on this web site. Make sure that the split mast you swap for is not too old (they had a fibre glass joint section - modern ones have an aluminium joint section) and shows no sign of water inside or water dripping from the joint section when horizontal.
