Hi John
My son started when he was 8 crewing for me he didnt have to join the sprint 15 association. The main problem I have had over the last 6 years is keeping them warm as they can get very wet and cold the best investment I made was a dry suit.
P.S I have now got my boat back to myself as he is now sailing on his own its alot quieter.

My 8 year old daughter crewed for me at the Nationals, first time on a Cat. I told her it was the ultimate funfair ride, flying high in the air, diving through waves with a hose in your face and generally pretty scary. I think that as long as you have prepared them they should be ok. Keeping warm was only a problem between races.
