If it rains on St Swithun's day.................

Where were you on sunday, 15th July 2007. It was St Swithun's day!
Were you at Seasalter with Steve Willis and his pals? Or did you join the Throrpe Bay regatta across the estuary? Maybe, you were at Grafham Water with Frank and Phillip. But most importantly, did it rain? It probably did, because we know much of the country had thunderstorms.
But on 15th July it has a special significance. This is because, "If it rains on St Swithun's day, it rains for forty days and forty nights"! Nowadays we tend to pooh-pooh such ideas, but it is amazing how the old sayings ring true. Just look at the summer we have had. Apparently June was the wettest on record. St Swithun could be right. He didn't actually say which side of 15th July.
No need to worry about the nationals in Saundersfoot. St Swithun was a Saxon saint, whereas our national championships are in Wales. I understand the forty days and forty nights ruling doesn't apply to Wales.
