Quick visit to Saundersfoot

Just got home from a family holiday in Cardigan ( just up the coast from St Davids), and couldn't resist a trip to Tenby via Saundersfoot. Both have lovely beaches and Saundersfoot should make an excellent venue for the Nationals.

The fun sail to Tenby should be good, the new lifeboat station is well worth a visit. The town is traffic free during the summer months and is good for mooching about (Twenty blokes in wet suits wondering the streets may look a little odd).

Sussed out where Coppit Beach is, slightly away from the centre of Saundersfoot and with better access for boats and trailers. Campers and B+B 'ers shouldn't starve, there are loads of caf's, bakeries, etc. Fishing looks good if you like that sort of thing...

Going to bring the boat home tomorrow.... My route via Conwy over the Snowdonia hills to Saundersfoot will take about 4/5 hours (and it's only 150 miles).

Hope to see you all there

Folks,

My memories of sailing in the area in 1994 are:

1) Jellyfish as big as dinner plates (perhaps bigger), making a thunk as you hit them with the rudders.

2) The rocky shoals between Saundersfoot and Tenby and Cladey Island, just below the surface so you have to watch for them on the cruises. Plus the cliffs make a much more dramatic scene than I'm used too.

3) Porpoises milling around the fleet

4) Ice Cream on South Beach at Tenby and playing French Cricket at Caldey.

5) Winning the Treasure Hunt with my old man (only nationals win! but not exactly boat related)

6) And finally the long walk with launching trolley to\from boat at coppett beach and hoping I pulled the boat up enough, but not too much, to prevent it from floating off.

Perhaps this year we can add:

1) Seeing a Great White and hopefully not being eaten by it (just about to watch Jaws 2!), what with all these reports from Cornwall. :D

2) Or perhaps a Basking Shark.

Oh well you live in hope.

Martin S.

PS I'll be going to the fun events due to a change in plan. Booking extra time off work.

Ditto. Kevin and I are also coming down for the fun events.

Sounds good. We could even get a Seasalter team in the go-karts!
Kevin Dutch was hot last year.
Should be a good week.

hi all

I've just been on multi map for directions and it sent me to chester and down the coastroad from North wales,:?
I am sure that I hade heard that I should go down the M6 (birmingham) then towards Bristol and make a sharp Right and find the A40 I think?
I may be dreaming but sure someone on the website said this route may be a little longer but quicker.
Definatly not going on the A road through the Valleys though which is suposed to be the shortest, dont want a touring hol in wales with a 7 foot wide boat on the back it may take all week!('')

North Wales and down is a bad plan.
Even though your trip will include Spaghetti Junction it is best to go down to Bristol and across.

I've not been down there for a while but is the Severn Bridge a toll bridge or is it a freebie? If so how much?

I have vague memories of it being so but it may have been paid off now.

Martin. I checked about the crossing the other week and its £5.10 for cars but i think that you only have to pay one way. Also you don't have to pay anymore for trailers which is good for me ha ha.

Hi Kevin

are you realy traveling withe the best part of 3 boats on your trailer?

The South Welsh make a lot of the fact that it is free to get into Wales across the crossing but that you have to pay to get back to England afterwards.
Nick is kindly taking my boat up so Kevin only has Martin's and his boat plus me in person.
