Folks,

You may have noticed I have changed the news section of the homepage. This is now running my new news system which speeds up things for me quite considerably and it also categorises each article. Currently it displays the last 10 articles in the database. This has been trialled in the testing area of the site for the last month and seems to have gone down quite well with you.

Clicking the more news postings link at the bottom of the page allows you to view articles that have fallen off the bottom of the page. I have transcribed most of the articles of relevance since February and back dated them. This screen also allows you to view just a specific type of article and\or change the order of viewing.

Specific Event articles such as notice of race, sailing instructions and entry forms are automatically deleted once a report has been published about that event. This neatens up the news quite considerably since the lead up to the event involves quite a lot of this sort of article which after the event is of no use.

As things progress I'll add in more things that the system can do.

Hi Martin
Looks good. Well done.
Regards
Bob
PS Any reason why you did not put the picture of Paul Smith & the keyboard on the website with the news posting?

Yes its still work in progress since I need to work out how to store the picture somewhere so the article viewer can find it and display.

Its something I forgot might be needed in my original design so I'm bolting it on. Probably tomorrow before it'll appear.

Thanks - I thought it might be that. Now that it is in regular use you are bound to discover the odd aspect not covered.
Cheers

Bob,

Ok I have adjusted the program to allow upto 3 pictures per article in a format not dis-similar to the event reports.

Ahh well once you get to being an officer it gets a little more difficult (more postings required per rank) and the further up the ladder the worse it gets.

I think it looks great and having the time/date of last update means that you can see at a glance if anything has changed since last visit.

I am sure that all the Grubguru has to do to get chips is wear his Shanklin Shirt, then I am sure Ervin will give him all the chips he wants.

It was nice to see a certain young Halifax lad wearing his Seasalter T-shirt at the Nationals.
He must be going soft, Steve.
