No Catamarans in the Olympics at Weymouth 2012

The ISAF Council have decided to dump the Catamarans from the Olympics at Weymouth in 2012(see the statement copied below). This is bad news for catamaran classes in general and in doing so they have dumped one of the most exciting classes for the spectator and kept slow and boring offering such as the Star. It shows that it is more important to have friends in high places than to have an exciting boat with a big following. It defies all logic.

Sailing has a long and glorious history as an Olympic sport and has been on every Olympic programme since 1908. The ten events chosen for the London Games provide a perfect showcase of the wide range and diversity of sailing. I am certain they will form the backbone of a terrific Olympic Sailing Competition in 2012.”
