Whats the best technique for reaching in strong wind? I find the best way to sit with the beam in between your legs and throw the tiller over the back and hold on to the tiller arm's as holding on to the tiller gets in the way. I didn't know if anyone else had any other techniques?

Hi Kevin
I sit with the beam between my legs but keep the tiller in my hand.

Hi Kevin
Try reading "Sailing in a Blow" in the Tips section of this website.
I'm with Erling I keep holding onto the tiller extension. I reckon throwing it over the back is a mean trick designed to catch those out who duck your stern.
Have you ever sailed in the same race as 18ft skiffs or 49ers? They seem to have tiller extensions sticking out in all directions!!!!
Cheers
Bob

Hi Erling,
Do you mean you put one foot under the rear beam and the other under the toe strap?

When are you getting the boat back on the water Kevin?
We missed having your course boat out to lead the 18s this weekend.
