The Sprint 15 Training session led by Brian Phipps is confirmed to be at Grafham on 22/23 May. This is the first time that the class has employed a professional trainer although a couple of clubs have hired Brian for Club training weekends. The reports of those that ran and attended these courses run by Brian are very positive.
The cost for attending this course is £105 for non Grafham club members. You have to be a member of the Sprint 15 Association to take part. The course is likely to be very popular and there are only a limited number of places. To secure a place on this course please send a deposit of £50 (cheques made payable to "Sprint 15 Association") to Bob Carter, 13 The Brambles, Stevenage, Herts, SG1 4AU
Cheers

Hi Bryn,
I'm still waiting for 2 deposits but as long as I get them in the coming few days it looks like we are full. Never the less we want people to keep declaring their interest so that we can decide the next steps. If there is enough interest we will organize another course, so with this in mind I will run a reserves list but we will not collect deposits until more information is known about the interest level and where/when the course will be.
Shall I make you first on the reserves list?
Cheers
Bob

Hi Bryn
We are full for the Grafham Training event. We are working on the options for a follow on event. One such option is 10/11 April with Brian Phipps at Stewartby. The trouble is this is Easter weekend. Would you be prepared to come to a training event on Easter weekend? The costs would be similar to the Grafham one (£105 for non Stewartby Club members).
I would also like input from others that may be interested. Would you attend a training event over Easter weekend - or would you prefer us to organise another date which may be later in the season?
Thanks
Bob

It turns out that it is NOT Easter on 10/11 April  but 3/5 April so this date should be OK. I would be grateful for any extra expressions of interest in us running a training course on 10/11 April at Stewartby.
Cheers

Hi Guys,

Thank you for signing up for the training course with Brian Phipps at Grafham on 22/23 May.

Since this course filled up we have organised another course with Brian Phipps at Stewartby on 10/11 April.

At present the course at Stewartby has 7 people signed up for it and the course at Grafham has 14.

The purpose of this posting is to see if anyone wants to transfer to the Stewartby course. The advantages are that the Stewartby course is 6 weeks earlier and has fewer enrolled so that the people on this course will get more individual attention. There is no pressure. At 14 the Grafham course is full but people will it still get good instruction.

If you do want to change to the earlier course please let me know.

Cheers

Bob

Hi Guys,
Happily a couple of guys moved their course from Grafham to Stewartby so we could accommodate another one (or possibly 2) on the Grafham Course. :D
You will have to be quick, though if you are interested. Please call me on 01438 354367 if you are interested.
Cheers

22-23 May Training at Grafham

The training at Grafham is set to kick off at 10am on Saturday so your boat needs to be together with the sails ready to hoist by 10am. The Club will be open from just before 9.00 am which should give you a chance to put your boat together. For travelers wanting to park their boats at the Club on Friday night the gates will be open until 7.15pm Friday.

Please be prepared to pay me the balance of your tuition fee (cash or cheques made out to “The Sprint 15 Association”) on Saturday morning.

The program will run from 10am – 6pm Saturday and 9.30 – 4pm Sunday.

The program runs with on and off water activity.
Off the water:- a series of session briefings, dry-land exercises / demonstrations and debriefs.
On the water:- a series of exercises building towards a race program, on water video work and tuning.

The Club Galley will be open for drinks and meals during the day on Saturday and Sunday*. On Saturday evening we will organise a meal at a pub nearby. This will be more social than part of the course but it would be good if some of the Grafham sailors can also join us. Please let me know by Tuesday if you plan to come to the pub so I can organise a table.

There is a list of some of the accommodation options for the travelers below. There is no camping at the club site that weekend although there is a campsite a couple of miles away. There is a fuller accommodation list on the club website: www.grafham.org

*drinks/meals are not included in the cost of the course so bring some cash.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday

Bob Carter

Sprint 15 Training at Grafham 22/23 May
5 travellers joined 8 locals at Grafham for the second of 2 training courses that the Sprint 15 Association ran using Brian Phipps of Windsport as the coach. The weather was hot and sunny but a little more wind would have been useful to put the techniques to the test. The ability range of the participants ranged from those who had just bought a Sprint 15 to some old hands who wanted to sharpen up their technique (Thomas Sandal was the extreme as he was 2nd at last years National Championships!). Phil Warner (one of the new owners) had been on the previous course at Stewartby in April and he enjoyed it so much that he came back for a second go! The course covered dry land sessions to explain the techniques interspersed with exercises on the water. The sailors techniques were video'd on the water and then the play-backs were used at the debriefing sessions. The course also covered a boat maintence session on the Saturday evening after the breeze had died. All participants felt that they had got a lot out of the course so we would like to thank Brian Phipps for taking the time to do them for the Association and to Mark Aldridge who was the RIB driver for the Grafham weekend. A fuller report will be included in the next issue of NewSprint.
Participants: Keith Ball, Jon Lyon, James Hurst, Eamonn Quigley, Kim Harris, Ted Waller, Thomas Sandal, Richard Whitelock(all Grafham), John Manning (Beaver), John Linnell (?), Phil Warner (Draycote), Keith Chidwick (Queen Mary) and Gordon Duece (Brightlingsea)
