I see that the new 2012 RYA yardsticks for our boat change as follows:
Standard mode now 918 ( a change of +1)
Sport mode now 883 ( a change of -3)

PS Quite a few other cats change too e.g Dart 18 805 (+5), Hurricane 5.9SX 699(+10), etc.
They also share the data on the number of races included in the returns for last year. The Sprint 15 is the most popular catamaran (1163 races included in the returns) followed by the Dart 18 (1104 race returns). No other cats have more than 450 returns............. Of course this only applies to handicap racing.

So the Sportsters will have to work even harder against Unarig then..

No the A Class is still on the RYA list -it is unchanged at a PN of 681 based on 114 returns.

On the Sprint 15 changes I have always believed that the Sport mode is harder to sail to handicap than the standard mode so the reduction in the Sport PN is in the wrong direction in my view. The RYA change really reflects little more than an average of the handicaps used by clubs who make returns so what it shows is that Sport sailors have been less successful at convincing their clubs to use a higher number than the RYA number than have the Standard mode sailors. In fact the SCHRS rating system is very harsh on the Sport mode so it may be just an effect of clubs converting SCHRS ratings into handicap ratings.

Incidentally talking to David Lloyd at the show he reckons that the SCHRS panel are planning to review the way that non dagger board (i.e.skeg) catamarans are rated. This could be good news for the Sprint 15 and the Darts.

Does anyone know if the Traveller / winter results are submitted to the RYA? There is an obvious source of reliable data there, comparing all three modes together.

No Andy we don't. It is clubs who make returns not classes. For good data the RYA really need handicap racing where the spread of classes is large. Class racing is not used to my knowledge. The Class can use what handicaps they want for class racing. There is nothing to stop someone in the Class from doing the work and making a proposal but you do need to be sure that you have got a good group of sailors sailing each mode for good data.

I see that the SCHRS rating changes have now been posted.
The Standard Sprint 15 rating has changed from 1.32 to 1.376 a change of plus 4.2%
Sport mode rating has changed from 1.218 to 1.258 a change of plus 3.4%

This is good news for those competing in Catamaran open meetings using SCHRS ( like the 3 Piers Race). Unfortunately it has done little to make the SCHRS ratings reflect the true speed differential between Sport mode and Standard mode. If you sail Sprint 15 Sport mode you have to be 8.5% faster than a Sprint 15 Standard mode boat to beat it with SCHRS ratings but on PY you only have to be 3.8% faster. The PY difference is a more realistic gap so if you plan to enter the 3 Piers race sail standard mode - not Sport mode.

Taking a casual look around the rest of the SCHRS ratings on common cats we see:
Dart 18 rating has changed from 1.181 to 1.210 a change of plus 2.5%
Dart 18 (S/H) rating has changed from 1.186 to 1.237 a change of plus 4.3%
Dart 16X rating has changed from 1.226 to 1.237 a change of plus 0.9%
F18 rating has changed from 1.000 to .966 a change of minus 3.4%
F16 rating has changed from 1.008 to 0.989 a change of minus 1.2%
Prindle 15 rating has changed from 1.206 to 1.275 a change of plus 5.7% ( the biggest I noticed)
ShadowX rating has changed from 1.061 to 1.076 a change of plus 1.4%
Spitfire rating has changed from 1.041 to 1.033 a change of minus 0.08%
Topaz14Xtreme rating has changed from 1.238 to 1.233 a change of minus 0.04%
Inter17(19M2) rating has changed from 1.065 to 1.073 a change of plus 0.08%
Catapult rating has changed from 1.239 to 1.280 a change of plus 3.3%
HurricaneSX rating has changed from 1.006 to 1.019 a change of plus 1.3%

So in general dagger board cats with spinnakers get lower (faster) ratings while unarig skeg cats get bigger (slower) ratings.

It would be interesting to know what the SCHRS rating would be for a single-handed unarig Sprint15 with use of the trapeze. There isn't a figure on the SCHRS site. Does anyone have an estimate of the change would be?

SCHRS for Unarig SH with trapeze is 1.361 (i have the new formula on test)

I'd be more interested in finding out what the sail area and dimensions of the DX15 rig is but since the 'DX association', builders, sail makers and the sailors themselves are not coming forward with this information then technically it is 'not measured' and cannot race.

"guessing" at a 10% increase in sail area and a 0.8m square head it comes in about right compared to its results but we wait to see.
