Boat 1890 and a half

Have just bought a second hand boat with 1890 as the sail number.
I should have paid more attention because 1890 is owned by Jon Finch.
My boat has yellow and black stripes and the sail has yellow corners and a black line on the bottom batten.
The serial numbers in the hulls are:
starboard: 258567
port: 188866
Does anybody keep records of what the correct number should be?

Hi Liam,
I too, would like to know the answer. Stefan Smith (TBYC) has entered the national championship with #1525. And yet, our website shows a Sprint for sale with the same sail number.
I wonder if it is anyting to do with Laser Centre.

I definitely think Laser duplicated some #, as when I was selling 1706 another one came up in Scotland with the same # I believe we both had documentation from Laser!!!

You could re-number it 189, or maybe 18 - Mark Aldridge has 19
. Err what's happening to Jagular?

Jagular needs a bit of (more) attention to one of the skegs. Otherwise it's a good old boat.
I was going to use the 554 sail at the Nationals. I definitely am now I have discovered there are two 1890s.

See you are getting in some light wind practice, ready for Sunday and Monday. Does it go better with the rudders half up?

Can anything be done about the duplication of numbers? At Thorpe Bay, we have two boats facing this problem: 1402 and 1525. It would seem there was a random allocation of numbers by someone at Laser Centre. Our class is probably bigger than we think.
It might be a good idea if owners were to annotate the boat register along the lines that Liam suggests, eg 1890A. In time, we'd know how widespread the problem has become.
