Eurocat 2015 Update (1 to 3 May 2015)

Hi All

Well 2015 has arrived and it’s time to start thinking about what sailing events to do in 2015.

For those that are going to EUROCAT and for those still considering it I spoke to Leonie at Yacht Club de Carnac this week, the NOR is not ready yet as they are currently validating this with the French Sailing Federation.

They are hoping to have this completed by the 15th February when the NOR and entry forms will be posted on their web site www.yccarnac.com

It's time to start making all those arrangements, if anyone is thinking about going and not sure and wants to talk it through give me a call.

Thanks

Paul

we're C3 this year not C4and price is 150 euros instead of 100.

See the below:-

Hello M. FRASER

Welcome to EUROCAT 2015.
This year the DART SPRINT 15 is in C3 and not in C4 as you can read on the link under : Rating published by the FFVoile.

Interesting , may be the Sprint 15 sailors were doing
too good last year!!
May be someone in the class can check the sums? it seems strange the Hobie 14le with trapeze stays in C4? rating the same 1.397

Guess someone knows something we don't!

Well Spotted Brian.
Yes it looks like a bit of Gerrymandering has gone on with the boundary by moving the Sprint 15 (1.397) to Group 3 whilst leaving other boats which are faster (Hawke Surf Cat, Hobie 14LE, Topaz 14CX, etc) in Group 4. :? This leaves them with a very small group in Group 4. Much better racing would have been achieved in my view by a more radical change between Groups 3 & 4 by making Group 4 non-spinnaker cats in the range up to SCHRS1.12 and making Group 3 the Spinnaker Cats in the same range. That way the Sprint 15, Dart 18, Prindle 15, 18, Catapult, etc would sail against one another and not against the spinnaker boats that they are now grouped with. Experience shows that Spinnaker boats like different courses from non-spinnaker boats. They also have huge advantage downwind especially in light winds which is not reflected in the ratings. Making the transition point between group3/4 something just faster than the Dart 18 (1.217) and moving the Dart 18 and lower into Group 4 would also have merit.
Cheers
Bob

So we have one day less of competition and pay 50% more? Is anyone taking this up with Eurocat?

Hi All

Yes last year it was four days and this year it is three days, the cost last year for the races and the long distance was 150 Euro the same as this year.

I have emailed Léonie to ask if like last year we get a reduction in the entry fee as being singled handed sailors or as they refer to it lonely sailors.

I have also asked the question about us now being in C3 and not C4 as per the Hobie 14LE, and the change in handy cap from 1,403 to 1,397.

However we can’t go to their premier event and wipe the floor with every C4 and not expect them to review our class, it just goes to show the Sprint 15 is a better boat than any of them thought

As for numbers there is about 10 people going but some may sail in other formats.

Cheers

Paul
