Naval ranks

When this website was built, it was decided that members would be awarded a naval rank based on one's number of posts. I don't mind ranking, but not on this basis.

I wonder if we can award ranks in a different way. Perhaps flagging up members of the Sprint 15 committee, the present leader/contact of a club fleet (no longer me!). Or flagging up members who have attended 10 championships etc. Or any other notable contribution to the class.

Any ideas?

This made me laugh:

Fading star of the Thorpe Bay fleet
Former rugby player in the extra-B
Struggling musician
Second best cabbage in the village show...

but don't be too shy to be an admiral :D

I like it as it is. It is entirely democratic whereas awarding positions to club big wigs is not very fair.

I was dubbed "Ship's Cat" by two students taking one of my courses last year, a monicker which I was happy to accept.
I think the present system is fine although I note there is no rank of Cabin Boy!

I also like it the way it is as it rewards people who make a contribution to the chat page who either have a question that needs an answer or as someone who has an answer or an opinion on matters which we can all join in on
