Hi all,
can anyone tell me the correct positioning of the numbers on a new sail please? My best guess from viewing Photographs is starboard side high , 200 mm from leech , 100 mm up from baton on 5th panel and 100 mm between?
Thanks
Phil

Sounds about right.

Starboard should always be above port on a sail.

Racing Rules of sailing page 125.

300mm Minumum Height, Minimum 60mm Spacing between letters and edge of sail. Starboard High.

Except as provided in rules G1.3(d) and G1.3(e), class insignia,
national letters and sail numbers shall, if possible, be wholly
above an arc whose centre is the head point and whose radius
is 60% of the leech length. They shall be placed at different
heights on the two sides of the sail, those on the starboard side
being uppermost.

If you've got an old sail of the same number (in the correct position) you can use it as a template by laying your new sail over the top of it.

Check out Spring 2013 edition/page 16 of 'Newsprint' magazine which is an article by Brian of how and where to apply sail nos.
Magazine can be found on the relevant tab on the home page of this website.
Hope that helps.
Cheers from the ex-editor :D
