Re: Going backwards?

I think Case 99 of the Rules Interpretations answers your question. When you're in irons you are out of control and I would argue in a condition covered by one or all of the following rules in RR Part 2. Sailing backwards, or overlapped by ROW boats to leeward, or on Port, or tacking, all of which m...

From the turtle position you stand on the dagger board and use the righting lines to pull the boat up onto its side. If you can't get your leg over (a fairly normal occurrence for any man at times) you continue pulling while falling into the water until the boat is the right way up. Then using the r...

They are easy to right from turtle. I had one. Stand on daggerboard and pull it up onto its side. They float in that position. Then go to the back and swim on.

Is the Sport handicap too stringent?

It is curious that the 2 sail 2 up Sprint sails off the same handicap as a Unarig of 917 yet the Sport is off 883. Is the addition of one lightweight body to another on the 2 up version really so detrimental to the boat’s performance, particularly when it is breezy? I’ve been sailing Sport single ha...

Hi Bob, On online Y&Y there was a write up about Sail for Gold which said that the medal races were being streamed live from there and giving the start time for the Finn race which was the one I was interested in. A link was also provided to the Sail for Gold site. The latter was a bit of a dog'...

The medal races at the end were streamed live on the inet by the Sail for Gold outfit. I watched Scott et al iin the Finns. No doubt the Laser comp next weekend will be streamed. But apart from a few mins at the start it is not great TV.

George, Many people have misconceptions about the speeds sailing boats can attain in the right conditions. They tend to think that planing is the only fast speed mechanism involved. But when there are big winds there are usually big waves on which boats can also surf. Now the maximum driving force u...

I find that when on the trapeze in Sport you can lose a lot of time trying to adjust things when you need to concentrate on going fast. And when I'm on the trapeze (wind at least top F3) I have so much power available that steering and mainsheet adjustments are all that are usually required. So I se...

Hi Gabriel,

The video is now back up and working on You Tube and I've had a look at it. For other Sprint sailors its title is "Beautiful Day".

Gabriel,
Thanks for the news. I'll have a look soon.

Bob,
My travelling days are over. I had my fill when I was younger. Now I'm happy just paddling in my own pond.

Cheers

You Tube video of Gabriel

Hi Gabriel (or Brian)
I can't access the video of the Sprint 15 coaching session of Gabriel and Brian at Windsport. I am told it is not available in this country.
Is that correct and is there any way round it?

Magazine and membership

Hello George Love I am contacting you via the chat pages as I have not received the latest edition of the Sprint mag. I tried to get into the members area to contact you from there but I wasn't able to get in there. There seems to be some problem with my membership registration. However I am able to...

Hi Andrew,

I knew that you meant going from a non-trapezing run (broad reach) to a trapezing close reach. And I presumed you asked about getting onto the trapeze beforehand while still on the run. My view is I wouldn't attempt it. Does anyone out there do that?

Andrew, Why would you want to get onto the trapeze on a F5 run (and I presume you mean a broad reach downwind). That is a high risk manoeuvre. I would come into the close reach as wide and fast as possible while sitting out hard, and head up thereafter until it was practicable and SAFE to get out on...
