Wednesday Evening Racing at Grafham [Bob]

Don't forget that the Wednesday evening race starts at 7.0pm this week and lots of people said that they would start taking part when that happens. Last week we got 9 Cats (6 Sprint 15s, 1 Dart 18, 1 Inter 17 and 1 Prindle 15) and all the Sprint 15s stayed for the evening meal. Sadly the wind was disappointing but we had a good social afterwards! It turns out that Frank can be entertaining in the bar as well as on the water. He reckons Erling must be poorly because he has been keeping such a low profile. I thought Erling was concentrating on his dancing classes but a little bird told me this week that his car has clapped out and he is desperately hunting for a replacement car.
This week Windguru is forecasting a mild evening with a 7-9mph southerly wind for Wednesday evening. We can see if Richard Philpott's new boat (1988) has improved his performance and John Long is going to tie a knot in his handkerchief so he remembers his trailer keys.

I am keeping a low profile because I have become the entertainment at Shanklin, capsizing going to windward when just for a change I was in the lead and ending up last and lucky to be in the first 5 or 6 boats in most races, so hoping Frank is still coming to Instow in two weeks to take the heat of me.

Sorry not to make it tonight Bob but buying 1988 will probably not improve my performance until Liz allows me to remove the hoover from a certain part of my anatomy.......

We missed you and your IoWers at Marconi SC! From the sounds of it you are not going to Rutland either!

Shame, 'cos I missed the Marconi SC sailors doing their RYA 2 Capsize Practice - but I did see another fall off his cat right in front of me just after a start.

We could have used some more quality entertainment and chat - I even had Old Nick yelling at my rudders to ask which way to go on the last race - when all I wanted to do was concentrate on my down wind gybing (I'm back to Sport Mode and so far the shoulder is holding up tolerably well - how's yours?). It goaded me into getting it right, so when Bob passed Nick I was far enough ahead on handicap.

You'd have enjoyed the tide - mostly faster than most at Instow, but without most of the curves and eddies - good practice for the Sport Nats.
