It is the North Devon Yacht Club who did all the work. So our thanks go to them. We had great fun in force 6-7 winds. We got 4 races in really testing conditions. The prize for most capsizes goes to Brian Phipps who managed at least 4 capsizes. The prize for the most photogenic capsize goes to Peter Ewing closely followed by George Love. The photographer (Jane Perrin) has posted over 800 pictures on their website including frame by frame sequences of Peter's & George's capsizes - have a look on www.cj-nautical-imaging.co.uk
We got 43 entries but a few did not venture out and a few more did not complete a race. 31 finished at least 1 race.
The meal on Saturday night was super and over ?60 was collected for the RLNI.
The race report will be posted shortly.
So we thank the NDYC for running a excellent event in testing conditions and we look forward to Gurnard next year.

The Race Officer and his team did very well for us in very difficult conditions. I think it was much better to have got 4 races in, even though the courses on Saturday were less than ideal to take most of the course out of the full force of the wind (5 to 6 gusting 7 to farther out in the estuary.

Please tell Erling that those who went home on Saturday night missed out the Sunday sailing (mostly) out in the main estuary in slightly less strong and gusty conditions on distinctly better shaped courses......

Finally, a big thank you to Chris Read who lent me his brand new long tiller extension when mine ended up rather too bent for sailing when I capsized on the mud when trying to get the rather reluctant main to hook on!

What a fantastic weekend and a huge thank you to all at NYDC for making it happen in such tricky conditions. I enjoyed my capsize - very refreshing except that I lost 4 places in the process and 50 yards further on, did the same thing again. The old red mist had come down!! A great event with lots of memories to treasure.

I went to Instow and lived! That's how it feels now I'm back.
You now how at race tracks they name the corners?
I'd like to nominate 2 more, especially for Instow, that's
'Heart Stop Run' and 'Suicide Gybe'. And any one who raced on Saturday will be all too familiar with them!
Thankyou to NDYC for managing to run the event in terrible conditions and put on a super event on and off the water.

On reflection of the 831 pictures I award Steve Sawford the prize for posing. Every time the camera was pointing his way he was looking round and smiling - he would give Frank Sandells a run for his money in the posing stakes if they were both at the same event. Brian Phipps looked really good on his boat in the pictures - it was a pity he could not keep it upright - at least 4 capsizes I counted (his boat even looked quite good helmless). Kevin Dutch looks good in the pictures as does (wrecker) Sam Heaton. We will have to watch out for these 2 in future events!
Some really good pictures - so if you figure in one or more why not buy one? It is nice to support the photographers who did such a good job(Jane & Carl Perrin).

Its nice to see that the 3000 mile travel, possible (hopeful) jetlag, lack of time on the boat and change of climate had no effect on his performance.

Ah well, maybe next year........ ha.
