Buy tailer and Box

Post by Steven Tunnacliffe »

I have been trying to get my head round this new forum hope someone gets this;

I am thinking about buying my own trailer this year and not borrowing somone elses because i have already booked my acomodation at Saundersfoot for the nationals.

what I would like is a trailer that in the future will be strong enough to carry two boats on a regular basis with a box that wont rot and will carry all sails rudders tiller extensions (not broken Down), Is long enough to take 2 split masts and hopefully the sailing bags.

Dont want much do I

Tough Trailer

Post by Charles »

Steve

Jim Bryce has a very nice double (both the right way up), simillar to the Sea Scout's trailer at our club. Masts don't then need to be split.

You could put a box the size of mine on there, but trying to get split down masts into a box is a pretty tall order.

You may be better off looking on the D18 website as their trailers will be beefier that those designed for S15s.

Alternatively we could go halves on an old D18 "for a laugh/blast" with a trailer & you could use that. 5036 is on their board for ?1000, in Maidstone, I'll go 1/2s on it with you. Or there's a trailer for sale somewhere in Kent for ?350 with large Galvanised box.

Tough trailer D18?

Post by Steven Tunnacliffe »

Charles

would a S15 fit on a D18 trailer for example how far apart ar the hulls compared to S15s as i wouldnt want to buy one and find that the wheels or mud guards were rubbing the hulls.

As for sharing a D18 not sure how well that might go down?

Also can you give me any tips on how to speak to others as a group on the new web site I assume that my previous mesage only got to you.

see you later

Steve,

I have a Dart18 trailer and it fits my 15 just fine. Just need a towbar on my car and I might be able to go travelling but in the meantime it makes a useful storage facility for the boat especially when the wind is up.

When you post a message to the forum everyone can see it.

Steve - I bought a Dart 18 trailer last year without a box and I paid ?330 for it, so ?350 doesn't sound a bad price to start haggling from.

Sharing

Steve

I'm sure sharing an 18 would be fine, as long as we don't tell the other halves!

That would get the Watson fleet up to 6.5 boats & Tunnacliffe fleet up to 2.5 in total, which perhaps might be considered a bit excessive, especially as there are only 4 keen sailors amongst us !
