Events System Revamp

Post by Martin Searle »

Folks,

I have put in place my new Events system for just the 2007 Summer events, in other words I haven't back dated it too past events.

This system has the following features:

1) Event infomation and reports are held in a database and are dynamically published. Meaning I don't have to hand code these pages anymore for each event which takes a few hours.

2) Event Results are displayed with the report, along with voucher winners.

3) The event results are fed into the series results table automatically and the system can calculate the provisional series results at any time, so you should always know where you stand in the overall series after a result has been published. This is still being worked on, but it gives the correct point scores and positions but no tie breaks as yet.

4) It generates the Event Timetable automatically from the database with links to all relevant items.

5) Each event infomation page has a mini map displaying where the club is to make finding the club easier. It can be zoomed in and out to display more info.

6) The next event box on the home page will automatically display the next event without being manually updated after each event.

In summary it streamlines everything.

Let me know of any issues you find with it.

Hi Martin
It looks really good. It could save the events secretary tons of work too.
Well done

Event System Revamp (2)

Post by Martin Searle »

Folks,

I have further extended the results scoring system and the series results are now being fully tie brokered, using ISAF Rules A8.1 and 2 so everyone now has a unique position in the series. I have indicated which scores were ties and which rule was used to break it on the series results table.

View it here: http://www.sprint15.com/events/EMS/seri ... s.php?id=1

There is a link there to the online ISAF rule books relevant pages so you can find out what the two rules are.

Let me know of any discrepencies you find.

Hi Martin
In the events section, is there nothing we can do to stop the Nationals & the Fun Events opening on a blank screen & having to scroll down to get to the information. It is not intuitively obvious that there is information there if you scroll down.
Cheers

All I can say is it doesn't for me. Its probably something to do with screen size. I'll have a look but can't promise anything since browsers tend to have a mind of their own!, for example firefox renders pages differently to IE.

The pages render fine in Firefox at all resolutions. IE has trouble with them at 800x600 and 1024x768 but not for all events.

Looking at other pages on the site IE has similar trouble with the Winter Series event reports.

I don't know what the solution is at present.

Screen Size Trouble

Post by Martin Searle »

Bob,

I found that if I removed the map picture from the bottom of the saundersfoot page (its not needed with the interactive map available on the page) the Saundersfoot event page renders fine in IE in 1024x768 resolution.
