Charles Watson beats Yves Loday

Charles Watson beats Yves Loday and Reg White...................

to sign the petition.

Have you signed yet? Over 750 cat sailors have signed so far. Let's get it over 1000

See below for details

The RYA have recently made submissions to the ISAF to drop the use of catamarans for youth training from 2009 and to drop catamarans from the Olympics from 2012. A group of catamaran sailors have created the following petition.

"Against the RYA's recent submissions to ISAF"

Hi Bob

I have also signed the petition at 12.10pm on thursday 27th sept.with the following coment.

'As an RYA dingy instructor myself I am appalled at the narrow minded attitude of the RYA suggestion to drop catamaran sailing as an RYA youth training boat and the proposal for the Olympics.
do you think anyone other than sailors watch sailing on the TV etc. to a non sailor it makes no sense.

I am seriously considering giving up dinghy instructing and never joining the RYA again.
Can you tell that my own racing sailing is done on a catamaran'

possibly EX dinghy instructor/RYA member

Just finished e-mailing Rod carr with a similar message:-

Hi Rod
Just a little note to object to the proposed removal of the Catamarans from the Youth games/Olympics/training etc.
this seems to me to be a very blinkered view by the RYA If anything there are far too many mono-hulls why on earth would anyone watch wind surfing for instance its fast OK but extremely boring going back and forth all day for high speed action you cant beat catamarans but do we ever see these or any sailing on terrestrial TV no.
Why because they would rather show time after time some 100m race that the Brits aren't even good at never mind win a Gold medal and other events like them!
What we are good at is sailing rowing kayaking and canoeing, apparently it would appear to me the RYA is of the opinion that Catamarans aren't worth sailing.

As a Dinghy instructor at present with a RYA membership to renew log book to keep up to date with and spending my own free time teaching people to sail mono-hulls when I could be racing my own Catamaran instead of watching the club racing going on and my fellow cat sailors gaining points in the series while I receive average points for instructing.
you may say I'm a bit disgruntled with the RYAs stance on this!

Hi Bob,

You've really started something! The world of cat sailing is unanimous. The RYA has unwittingly given us a "cause", whereby we have an opportunity to show how vibrant and active we are. The buffoons of Hamble Palace have now become figures of fun. But more importantly, they are mis-trusted.

Loads of Thorpe Bay members have signed, including sailors of Sprints, Spitfires and Hurricane 5.9s.
