Winter TT QMSC

Thanks to Gordon and QMSC for staging a great fourth round of the Winter series TT.
Personally thought the format of back to back races worked superbly well, benefits: two long races, best use of the wind conditions and opportunity to socialise with fellow Sprint 15 colleagues before the long drive home.

Well done to Kevin Dutch who won the event sailing Sprint Sport (YeHaaaaar) hope to see more helms sailing Sport mode at Grafham in March.

Well done to Ed Dalton, Derek James Jan Elfring from Draycote SC who put three boats out at this event and are now becoming regulars on the travelling circuit, great to see you.

Question for the statisticians (Martin) when was the last time at any Open / Winter TT event did the mighty Grafham SC not put a boat out at the event? (PS: Steve Sawford doesn't count)

Folks,

I have added the results into the database and the series results have been recalculated by the system. Also a brief report has been added but Gordon is writing an extended version and I'll add a few pictures tomorrow.

Looks like it was a nice sail, pity my boat is in its usual bits whilst I repair everything prior to the new season.

Thanks to Gordon for the nice pictures and the prompt report about last Saturday and also to Martin for his hard work on the cumulative results pages. This is really great because I can print out the page when part-way through the series I appear to be doing not too badly! This is what I show to the family, which helps when it comes to spending more money on goodies...

Acually they were taken by our QM safety boat driver, Simon.
I gave him the camera just before we set off for the course and said "try and get a few photos if you can".
What a good job he did.

Question for the statisticians (Martin) when was the last time at any Open / Winter TT event did the mighty Grafham SC not put a boat out at the event? .

Fair cop but, just so you all know, we had 8 boats out practising today in preparation for next weekends TT with more home boats expected from our other 'regulars'.

It's not as long ago as you might think from the spiel in the Event Info for Sunday's Winter Traveller at Grafham.

By analysing the results on this website for last summer's Traveller Events, just 4 Grafham sailors bothered to travel, 2 of them travelling twice.

At Carsington SC, 15/16 September there were 2 Grafham Travellers
at Seasalter SC, 14/15 July there were 2
at Open Dinghy Club, 23/24 June there were 2
at Halifax, 12/13 May there were NONE
at Thorpe Bay, 28/29 April there were NONE

It seems that Grafham sailors are much less keen to support the Traveller Series than used to be the case.......

Just 1 Grafham sailor went to the Sport Nationals at Gurnard.

About 11 went to the Nationals at Saundersfoot (reckoning from my memory, given the lack of club info in the report on this website). This was around 20% of the total entry, and very welcome support for our Class.

Another Question for the statisticians : Which club's members supported the 2007 Summer Traveller Series by making the most "away" attendances (ie excluding entries made by sailors at the event at their own club)?

Hi George,

The first should change this summer when the new system is used for the first time but I have entered the results from last year into it as part of my testing. Yes there were 10 from Grafham at last years Nationals.

A test version of the results can be found at NB this uses new methods for Pro-Am and Most Improved competitions so these don't match too the real results:

The other stat just the top few incl. the NS Grafham event:

1) Kevin Dutch was first being the only person to goto all 6 events with one at his home club making 5 away events. 1 not sailed
2) Gordon Goldstone with 5 events away
3) Steven Tunnacliffe, John Long, Erling Holmberg, Stewart Pegum etc all 3 events

So based on that Queen Mary had good support with 2 of their sailors in that group.

In the case of Thorpe Bay 2007, I think I can explain. Just two days before the TT, our Events Secretary was suddenly taken ill. It is understandable how the Grafham fleet was distressed by the news, and didn't attend. There were 26 entries, notwithstanding.

I detect the Grafham boys are beginning to rally around. I spoke to a couple of their sailors at Ally Palais, and they seemed confident they would be back. I believe them.

John Long has decided to return to Grafham, after a year at Thorpe Bay. He will share the driving with Keith Ball, so they will both be encouraging each other.

At Thorpe Bay, we elect a new Sprint captain every two years. At the moment, it is Chris Maloney. I was the one before. In this way, more of our sailors have a chance of seeing what happens on the sailing committee, and to see how events are organised. The workload is thereby shared, and there is plenty of advice for the new incumbant!
