Thorpe Bay Low Down

Post by Bob Carter »

Duncan Ford sent me this extra info on Thorpe Bay so I'm posting it and using the opportunity to remind you to get your entries in for the Nationals and Fun Eventsa at Thorpe Bay. You still have a few weeks to take advantage of the low price deal (free for under 23s in full time Education).
Cheers

"Thorpe Bay is great for Families. We have a good family friendly beach right in front of the club with safe bathing. We also have what are probably the warmest swimming waters in the UK, with the tide coming in over 1 mile over mud flats and a consequent natural thermal warming effect. The Thorpe Bay beach is officially known as Shoebury Common beach and has a 2008 Blue Flag award for cleanliness and facilities. Even walking on the mud is interesting and different for children/adults alike.

Thorpe Bay is residential and removed by 2 miles from Southend.
There are walks at Leigh to Hadleigh Castle and Old Leigh fishing village is well worth a trip. Both of these are accessible by train if necessary.

We also have a fantastic balcony with great views of the estuary and the
racing."

Thanks for putting that in Bob. Sounds a great place to live!

My wife has pointed out that, strictly speaking, Shoebury Common Beach, with the coveted Blue Flag award, actually stops about 100 yds from the Yacht Club, where it becomes Thorpe Bay beach which has a Quality Coast award.

It is all the same water to capsize into and swim in, and the same sand and shingle for the kids to dig in. I think our bit allows dogs on it, which may be the difference.

All in all it is very family friendly and there is plenty of grass for kicking balls about and flying kites etc etc. So that sorts out the adults, now what about the kids?!

The only other point of interest is that, in a recent TBYC survey of members, 89% expressed satisfaction with the beers available!

Cheers
