Are there any families camping on the Council car park next to TBSC boat park for the Nationals?

I'm hoping there'll be a few other children for Elenya (8yrs) to play with & perhaps we can try to arrange an "early" to bed early to rise corner so we don't wake (too early) those who will be consuming large amounts of liquid refreshment the previous evening.

I'm planning on taking garden / field games, like coits & rounders, also our bikes so we can venture down to Southend Pier.

Hoping (?!) team Sawford will be there & the Grub Guru-ettes, anyone else ?

Any other thoughts on amusements for those 3 days, ideally not involving too much talking about boats, fiddling with boats, talking more about boats, sitting in the bar drinking beer & talking about boats, watching boats go by, oh & did I mention talking about boats ? ! A tall order I realise !!

Hi Charles,

There is a greensward to the left of the boat park, which you will see on the satellite photo of TBYC. Many families use this green for impromptu football and other games.

If you bring some stumps, a bat and tennis ball, I will introduce you to a game called "Hannah's Cricket". It is only vaguely similar to boring cricket you see on television. Hannah's Cricket is a game of great hilarity and you will never look at cricket in the same way again. The game is very popular with cheats. That is why you need a completely unbiased umpire like me.

As Duncan explains on the fun event page, a walk across the mudflats (mostly hard sand) is a joy in itself. I generally wear padlers or wetsuit boots.

Bicycles are a jolly idea. The seafront cycle path takes you into Southend and beyond. The number 9 bus every 15 minutes, also takes you there.

A stroll along the pier is a pleasant walk. If you don't want to walk back, you can take the tram.

We have a treasure trail and walk down Pier on the agenda. I am sure you can't cycle down the pier but you can easily cycle, or even walk, to it, but obviously will need a padlock.

There are plenty of amusement arcades if you are that way inclined, but they are over a mile away so optional.

The beach is good and water a lot warmer than up north! Tide will be better for mud walking later in week. It arrives at the bottom of the beach about 4 and a bit hours before high, so you will be able to go out and meet it, but be with your daughter as it comes in fast. Jelly bean shoes may help her.

Bring your swimming gear.

There is a cycle track along the seafront.

You can walk the creeks behind Southend which is different and pleasant. (need car to get there)

The camping area is part of a grassed car park opposite the club and over a residential road (about 50 yds from clubhouse but visible from balcony) There is a very limited grass area at side of club which could take a few tents but altho' closer it is less visible.

Cannot hink of anything more but reply if you have any specific questions and Andrew or I or others will do best to help.

Thanks for your responses, I'm sure we will find plenty of things to do, any game involving cheating usually goes down well, as long as the children come off best !!
