Sail Numbers

Post by chris prior »

Can anybody olease explain to me how two boats can have the same sail number?
A friend who is interested in possibly buying my Sprint looked on Apolloduck.com and saw a Sprint with the same Number as mine!!
I can confirm that mine is resting in France and yet this other boat is being sold in Scotland.
I do have all the paperwork to confirm my sail number and hull numbers.

Hi Chris
Sounds like an error by the Laser Centre some years ago. Either that or someone has put the wrong sail number on the other boat if all your paperwork is in order. I presume that your boat is sail number 1665. The one which is currently on Apollo duck has been 1665 for at least 10 years as it used to be at Swanage and took part in some of our open meetings. I suggest that you contact Apollo Duck and challenge them as you own 1665. Ask them if they have got the log book/ owners certificate.
Cheers

Hi
The observant of you will have noticed that second hand Sprint 15s have been selling like hot cakes from our website forsale list. :D
Now that Chris points it out there are a few on Apollo Duck at present including 1706, 1201 and 1665(mk2?) - it beats me why they don't advertise on our website :?

1665 is on our website as well but I suggest the long drive to view it and pick it up puts people off. For people thinking about buying a Sprint 15 from a distant location you should look at our tips on questions to ask on the phone before making the trip.

PS 1665 was recently bought from Swanage by the previous owner. He took it all the way to Fife and only had it for a few weeks before his company posted him abroard. :( Hence it is for sale again............

Hi Chris
I'm sorry for deducing it was the wrong Sprint 15. You said it was in Scotland but 1706 is at Stoke on Trent. No worries - best of luck.

I became a bit concerned some time back when I noticed that a boat at Swanage was sailing with the number 1351. When I contacted the owner I discovered he had somehow bought a secondhand sail from Laser. It even was in the correct colours for my boat. I dare say that Laser had provided a new sail when they sold on the boat which might have been a demonstrator or a trade-in for an 18. The old sail in the original colours probably became available as a secondhand one. I shouldn't worry if you have the documents - the other boat probably has had a secondhand sail on which the numbers haven't been changed.

Just out of interest is there anywhere that the hull / sail numbers are listed?

No Sorry. The Laser Centre might have had this data at onetime but it seems to have got lost.
The info for individual boats is on the logbook or owners certificate.
