Grafham winter icicle 16 March

Just a quick reminder that it is the last event of our winter travellers series at Grafham on 16 March.

It may interest you to know that Grafham has a whole new way of starting it's club racing these days. Gone are the buckets and flags and in come numeral boards which change every minute. It is a system that was devised as a result of watching the America's Cup racing in San Francisco. :D
it is fairly straight forward and all is explained in the sailing instructions but it would be wise to make it to the briefing session before the racing. :wink:

The sprint 15s will start first in the sequence and all other aspects will be as previous years. The first race will not be before 1058 hours and the full notice of race is on this web site and the Grafham websit.

See you on the 16 march.

It looks like the winter series winner will be between Thomas Sandal, Stuart Snell and Paul Grattage. Can Paul win at Grafham and dump his 15th place to take the series. It looks possible.
I presume that the talk of restaging the Datchet event has fallen by the wayside for this year, but I would be grateful if Erling or Paul can confirm it.

Grafham will be the last of the winter TT events. I hope we will be able to race at Datchet next winter.

Just a thought.

DON'T BE LATE.

One of the disadvantages of the new starting sequence is that it is not friendly to late starters. You have just 2 minutes to start after the class start.
If you arrive at the starting line more than 2 mins after the starting numeral (#3) you will get a dns. :(

I guess that you can not win them all......

Hi Bob,

Yes I'll be there, Re the new starting sequence it's basically a rolling 5-4-1-start, so for start 3 set your watch on 5 minutes when 4 is displayed on the committee boat, or failing that, 4 minutes after the Flying 15 start or two after the Lasers.
Clear as mud !!!

Er, as we are first off and the numerals change every minute, wouldn't our start numeral be 5? So we need to cross the start line before #7? Don't want to confuse anyone but I have been known to still be struggling with a drysuit during the briefing :oops:.

Hi Robert, Well spotted but you are wrong in your reasoning. As a special feature for Sunday we are not starting the count from 0 but we have introduced 2 extra numeral boards. All will become clear at the briefing :wink:
