Sail No. v Hull Nos.

Having bought '733' in 2011, somebody approached me and said that at first he thought I was SS out on the water.
Turns out (and verified by Steve) that he had refurbished and sold the boat to the person I bought it off, having added an 'old' sail of his (1733, complete with his signature orange taped batten pockets), and simply removed the 1.
Since then, I have wondered what its real sail number is. The sequential hull numbers are in the 1800's, so I figured divided by 2 would give an approximate number 900 - 950.

Wednesday evening, a clubmate showed me 864 which he had just bought off ebay. Taking the opportunity to check his sequential hull no's against the known sail no. (sale included original old spark sail). I noted that his (even) hull number is twice the sail number +18.
I can only guess that the +18 discrepancy could be down to replacement/damaged hulls, failed QC or prototypes.
Applying this formula to my boat, I come up with 933! Handy eh! as I would only need to change one number.

Is there anyone else out there with an original spark with a highish number who could let me know the sail and hull numbers in order to corroborate. Or does anyone know of a 933 out there?

I had a similar 'problem' about 5 years ago identifying an old wooden Fairey Marine Firefly with a different set of sails.

Hi Andy,
Brian Phipps and Ian Fraser have some data on old boats built by panther craft ( sail numbers<1000). You need to send your hull numbers to Brian and ask nicely if he can see if he can identify the sail number.

Just for the record, my hull numbers are 1883/1884 and they are white with Blue stripes.

Well it's back to plan A.
Brian tells me that the build records were passed over to Performance Sailcraft (Laser) when it became the Dart15.
They were subsequently lost/destroyed when Laser relinquished its licence to build.
So... If anyone has a boat in the 800 - 1100 sail number range, who could care to let me know the hull numbers. I would be appreciated.
Meanwhile, I may be seen peering in the stern hatch covers of any older boats when I'm at Thorpe Bay in July.

As it happens your boat is on the only page of records I have got. Your sail number is 1150 and it was dispatched on 6/5/87
If you reply to my mail note I'll send you the proof.

I just read the 733 item on the boat registry. You do not need to trouble Martin. As you are the Author you should be able to correct it yourself using the edit feature (top right when you are logged on).

Keith informs me that there is IC 429 on the port hull but nothing visible on the starboard side.

There are no cocktail cabinets.

Hi folks,
well I'm sailing 1150 here at shanklin, the port hull serial number is IC 429 but there doesn't appear to be one in the starboard hull, well not that I can see anyway, but I don't have cocktail cabinets in the hulls if that helps.
