Shroud and forestay length

Hi there I have been trolling around the chat pages to find out what the 4mm Shroud lengths are, also the forestay length. These all seem to be a bit of a grey art.

Ah found them,4300 +/- 5mm.
The question is now if I put a new SH mast on 642 using the same rigging as the old mast why is the forestay about 70mm shorter than before?
I have checked the distance from the mast heel to the hound and that appears to be the same as other boats. The pin fits through the heel. The old mast was almost upright. The shroud is the the 3rd hole down on the shroud plate which it always has been.
I will head down drop the mast again and check the length of the shrouds, if they are different then that will mean that there is something different about the old mast.

There are a number of things that can effect rig setting , all wires have a max an min tolerance unlikely but if all the rigging was on max tolerance , bridles, forestay, forestay strop, Shrouds that can add up.
Wire can stretch so if a sailor has some new wires copied from there old wire length the chances are the new wire will stretch slightly and is accumulative.
Wires made at Windsport are made towards the minimum tolerance.

Thanks Brian, have measured the shrouds, they are 4255mm. 45mm short.

All the wires are constant the only difference is the mast.I can only presume that the hound slot on the old boat might be in a slightly different position hence causing the problem.

If I were you, I would be worried that the boat would be very slow this season.

Hey Chris, if the hound slot is on the boat then that could be causing the problem.
