Thorpe Bay Nationals 22nd-24th July

Post by moreair »

As everybody should be putting their entries in very soon so as not to miss out on the excellent discount, only a couple of days left, I thought I would just take the opportunity to remind people of what they will be getting:

o Excellent sailing on the North Shore of the Thames Estuary.
o Results onshore as soon as you get in to change (well we have managed it for several events now).
o Its easy to get to us all main roads (more details to follows).
o Our Club members are getting ready to help you all out.
o Large Changing Rooms.
o We hope to have our successful manned boat cleaning points to ease your like and get you to the bar quicker.
o We have a sandy beach, although we usually manhandle our boats on it and although I pull my own up, 3 people can move a Sprint.
o Parking for boats and vehicles next to our Dinghy Park.
o Excellent affordable catering onsite over the whole weekend for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
o Sundays Dinner which is in the price is planned as 3 courses.
o Evening Entertainment has been arranged for Sunday, although I can't say it will be wild (and it is not Andrew Hannah).
The bar is well stock with Premium Lagers (Estrella), Standard Lagers (Fosters/Kronenbourg), 3 real ales (currently IPA, Woodforde Wherry and Abbots) most beers are around £3. At least 12 Wines of which 6 are served by the glass. In case anybody is interested 4 variations of water, including Tap ;-)
o The views from the club are southerly, sunny and good all day. We have had our Balcony with glass paneling so has uninterrupted view of the Estuary and the Sailing Area.
o Brian Phipps will be onsite next to the boat parking with his Trailer of bits and hopefully his list of jobs. Book in your mast ball replacement.
o Bring your bike the morning ride along the Esplanade is a good distance and most of it on a cycle path (the rest is a shared area, don't ask). An excellent warmup for the days event or to blow away the evening cobwebs.
o If your family are coming then let us know (before you come) and we can suggest several places to go and how to get there, the weekend planned for everyone. And if they don't want to stay in Thorpe Bay, you can be on a plane to Barcelona (and many other places) courtesy of Southend Easyjet or into London within an hour.

There is so much more than you may think

Get your entry in now (same message to the Thorpe Bay Sailors). Without you an Nationals wouldn't be a good Nationals

See you Soon.

As with all events we have free camping on the green in front of the club, please let us know if that is your plan (Tent of Camper van). Otherwise there is a load of affordable hotels many on the seafront, for the full list look at the Event details which says more about the club and accommodation.

As many say we are not like the Southend from the stories you hear, we are to the East and are Thorpe Bay, away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre, although it is only a short walk if that is where you want to be.

Don't forget ignore your sat nav and follow these directions:
"The quickest way is to enter Southend on the A127 and just go straight over each and every roundabout and traffic lights until you reach the sea. Turn left and TBYC boat park is 500 yds on the left. Ignore all the signs as the A127 at one point does turn into A1159, just remain straight. It is all Dual Carriageway, except a small section at the start of the A1159 around a few corners. Be warned there are average speed cameras from Basildon until the “Welcome to Southend on Sea” sign and then there are several normal speed cameras from there onwards with 40 mph speed limits.

Get your entry in you know "The only way is Essex" ;-)

Don't miss out on the opportunity to sail the Sprint Nationals (could be 60+ boats) on the sunny Southend Estuary. Meet many like minded sailors.

If you haven't already registered that is no excuse you can just turn up and pay your entry.

No where to stay then I can confirm there is still hotel rooms in Southend on Sea. Although the Premier Inn Seafront is full the other is only 10 minute drive.

Otherwise free camping on site, drop in to you local Tesco or camping shop. Tesco are selling tents for around £20.

There is no real excuse for us not seeing you Saturday.
