Instow Sport Nationals - Sept 15th/16th

Post by Ed Tuite Dalton »

Just over 3 weeks to this year's Sport Nationals at Instow and only a week left to get the early discount (Deadline 31st August)!

It promises to be a good turnout, with a number of old friends returning to the event - Ray and Tom Gall, Charles Watson and Robert England (if we can find him a boat - I think he is borrowing Tiger Shark).

The NDYC are expecting to put out 12 local boats and the young guns from Plymouth are planning to make it, along with team Shanklin and team Draycote. George has already dropped his boat to make sure he gets the best spot!

A number of others have said they are aiming to be there - Mark Aldridge, Steve Sawford, Simon Hare, Jon Pearse and Keith Chidwick to name but a few. Get your jib, trapeze wires and harness out and start practicing.

There should be some time to go cycling too on Saturday afternoon for those that want to. Just bring your bike!

It is always a great event and a fantastic location, so don't miss it.

Well Hello everyone, long time no posting!

Yes I'll definitely be down for some of the most tidally challenging racing you can get south of Oban!

The pincer movement on Ray seemed to work, though I think Robert has had to relinquish his aspirations, Worlds in a half-boat did for him!

Mark & Steve were reminiscing of halcyon days in sun, wind & tide; not to mention beer & bikes (somewhat wobblier on the way back) - wonder what comedy machine Mark will bring this time?? We will never forget Nick's soliloquy involving Kevin's big, black, detachable tow bar and George's powered one... nuff said !!

My bike is oiled & ready to take me some place to get me well oiled too!!

See you there !

Hi Simon

My advice is:-

Remember to bring extra little flappy bit, extra wires, extra big and extremely uncomfortable nappy contraption. Advice often improves in jovial content and in direct proportion to beer drunk!

The NOR is available, but no sign of the SIs? Are the SIs available?

Instow chaps - Having booked my accommodation when the event was originally 3 days starting on the Friday I am coming down on Thursday so is it possible to drop the boat off at the Club on Thursday around 2-3pm? Also if I wanted to get a short sail in on Friday is it possible and if so what time window is possible?

Many thanks

Two or three of us from Shanklin will be there Thursday evening. Hoping to go for a cruise on the Friday.

Yep - I'm booked in although I did say that about Plymouth, but having the rear of our house off meant it was better to be at home with polythene sheets just in case..

Commodore is booked for Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights and I plan to make a sharp getaway after breakfast on the Monday.

My comedy bicycle will accompany me, assuming we are simply going to the pub - if it's anything more serious that than I'll have to bring a grown up's bike instead.

As for practice Simon - I typically do that on the way to the first start..

Excellent attendance.
What is the low down on boats 2018 and 1957? Have you gone up the pecking order and become the number 1 seed at Shanklin?
Regards
Bob
PS Great to see 525 still going strong (my first Sprint 15)
