I am considering buying a second hand dart 15 but am
occasionally prone to small knocks. How do darts come out of
knocks and collisions? Does anyone have any experience of bad
knocks and how did the dart 15 come out of it?
Tom,
They are pretty tough. In most cases you just get
chips out of the hulls. They are tough in frontal collisions. They
are weakest if hit amidships low down. Often in a collision one
Dart 15 just rides over the other as the shape of the bow tends to
ride up but if a boat hits a Dart 15 broadside low down (Tbones
it) a hole can be formed. The hulls can generally be repaired
pretty cheaply. If you are accident prone go for a White Dart 15 -
it is much easier to get the gelcoat.

I imagine, Dart 15s would not do as well in a collision as a
Windrush 14. I sail one in Australia, and I've had that many
collisions with other boats (motor boats included) and not once,
have any cracks formed on the hulls - plus, I bet the Windrush 14
would kick the Dart 15 for performance - its worth looking up!
If you look at my post (Team phillips job on D15) you will probably see that things can get messy if you are involved in a T Bone collision. The thing to watch for is delamination. The particular boat that is mentioned in that post I have lost interest in (A lot of work needed to be done on it).
I hope this is of some help?
