Spanner Line [George Stephen]

George Stephen replied:

Mick,

There is no spanner line fitting at the foot of the mast.
Spanner Lines are out of class for a Sprint 15 / Dart 15 / Spark.

The plates at the clew for the mainsheet have an extra unnecessary hole. The same plates are used on the Dart 18, and most of us assume there was some cost saving....

The shape of the Sprint 15 Mainsail is different from that on the Dart 18 and most cats. It is comparatively wider from luff to leach. Apparently the shape means that a spanner line is not needed.

The Dart Sting shared the Dart 15 hulls (but with differently placed chain plates for the bridle wires). It had a longer mast, and a sail shape more like that of the Dart 18. If it has the spanner fitting at the foot of the mast, then clearly it needs a spanner line.
