Sprint 15s Score 1, 2, 3 ,4 & 7th at East Coast Piers Ra

Post by WaveyDavey »

Congratulations to the Sprint 15 sailors at today's East Coast Piers Race.

On the shorter course (Colne Point Race) Sprint 15's did the class proud taking 5 of the top 10 places:

1st Jenny Ball Marconi SC
2nd James Tovey Marconi SC
3rd Kevin Dowley Marconi SC
4th Andrew Chidwick Marconi SC
7th Keith Chidwick Queen Mary SC

Conditions were light and shifty, making things tricky for all competitors. As a member of the backroom staff (results sec) I didn't see much of the action on the water, so a more detailed write-up will hopefully come from one of the competitors shortly.

Brilliant event - well done Marconi SC

What a great event for Sprint 15s! Congratulations to Jenny on a technical sail requiring loads of concentration. The first two hours of the race were without wind (I was overtaken by seaweed that was making more of the conditions than I did).

At one point we caught up the Tornados who had started 20 minutes earlier - Sprint 15s even drift better than other cats!

The wind filled in for a pretty sail across the Backwater in the sunshine. Total race time was 5.5 - 6.0 hours. A big thanks to the Marconi club and the ECPR organising committee for a really well run event.

For those who have not done this event its very safety orientated using plenty of ribs and "mother" ships (yachts) every mile or so to point the way or give assitance if required. The onshore facilities are also excellent.

Finally, Im sure Andy merely overlooked to mention that you can sail inside the Bradwell Baffle - (as he did, I did not) and if you do can cut many hundred of yards off the course - cheers mate!
