Grafham Open 16-17 October

Hi guys
Just a quick note to say that our last event of the summer series at the Grafham Cat Open will once again be pre-entry only. You have to enter by 14 October to take part. The reason for this is so that the entries can be correctly entered on Sailwave so that the results can be quickly and accurately processed. 2 years ago we had great difficulty due to duplicate sail numbers across the fleets and various data entry problems. Last year was much better due to the extra time the advanced entry system gave us and extra letters were issued to enable duplicate sail numbers to be easily recognised.
Once again the Sprint 15s will be sailing a 5 race series, while other classes sail 6. This means that we can process our results while other classes do the 6th race. This enables us to do an earlier prizegiving and let the travellers get away quickly on Sunday. It worked well last year and we plan for 2010 to be the same. :wink:

Hi Guys,

It looks like there is a ban on boat movements from Grafham at present, due to the killer shrimp. :cry: :cry: :cry:

I hope that it will get resolved before the Cat Open. It also may stop the possibility of travellers from Grafham going to the Carsington event on the 25/26 September.

I guess it is a matter of watching the Grafham website in the near term.

That's bad news. I've not heard of killer shrimps, but I assume they must have been imported to this country and released, perhaps unintentionally, into our waters.

We've heard similar stories about crayfish. They are delicious to eat but are damaging fish stocks in the North Sea. The Yanks are worried about an alien species that is damaging marine life in the great lakes and rivers.

There are some very clever people who think they can interfere with nature. It began safely, a long time ago, with the import of tobacco and potatoes. But now, it's japanese knotweed, periwinkle and other unwanted plants. Mankind should be very careful when fiddling with nature.

what the heck is a KILLER SHRIMP is this a micky take or have you got a real problem at Grafham Bob as I have never heard of them, so let me in on the Joke or the Problem :?

It looks like the ban at Grafham has been lifted this evening subject to all craft leaving the site being washed down first :)

I do hope so. We have new caterers and they are offering a 2 course meal for £8.50. The menu is:

Steak & Ale Pie with Green beans and Mash.

We could probably do it as a special - but you would not be impressed. There is a fish tank of them on display in the bar. They are tiny. Not very impressive for all the fuss................
