Seasalter Sailing Club TT event

Please note that the first race start time at Seasalter on Saturday 17th May morning is 10.30 am.

Therefore it is highly recomended that you arrive early or on Friday evening, the club will be open for drinkies that night from about 19.00. I'll be propping up the bar with my coke.

Camping is available FREE of CHARGE for the event in the club boat parking field. We have additional boat parking on the beach in front of the club so there should be no problems with camping space etc.

Ben and I will be setting off on Friday afternoon about 2pm Sat nav says 5 hours 15-30 mins travelling But not sure that takes into account Friday Afternoon traffic, if accurate we will be there at about 7.30 - 8pm

With Traffic jams maybe about 9 - 9.30pm, still plenty of time to prop up the bar

Kev still havnt repaired my skegs from Marcconi concrete rash, probably do it Friday afternoon in the sun

wrong dad will be doing it as soon as you get home on thursday night so we have time to let it set and smooth it off! wouldnt want you to still use the excuse that your hull is slowing you down would we!!

sorry Erling I have damaged the skegs but I blame it on the Concrete cobbles at Marconi, you would think I would know all about concrete ramps and underwater breeze blocks after sailing at Halifax wouldnt you.

Yesterday I repaired with Gelcoat and will wet and dry it one night this week the two boats are already on the trailer and in the Driveway, packed them up yesterday after Ben and I both needed to make minor repairs.

So we sailed the Clubs brand new training Boat a Wayfarer and guess which Dinghy instructor took the Shine off the centreboard on our concrete slipway

Centreboard and rudder to take up I blame the crew for not lifting the Centreboard

nad i blame the helm nackeringhis own boat on marconi the training boat at halifax yopu wud think he wud relise u need to stop to put a boat on a trolley before coming ashore wouldnt you! well its sure to say YOU ARENT BORROWWING MINE!!!

Well the first day has been sailed and boy was it a windy and very lumpy sea day. With the forcast as it was the number of entries was down on last year with 11 hardy members taking part including 4 of your committee. The wind being a north easter mean't that the waves really built up with some about 4-5ft in size, in the short sharp chop Seasalter is know for.

Local 'Flying Dutchman' took both firsts today, with Erling in hot pursuit. There were a few people who decided to call it a day after the first race, including me after some 'technical difficulties'.

We'll see what tomorrow brings,

Many thanks to all who came to Seasalter ( 7 travellers and 5 home boats) for some really interesting sailing on Saturday. Steady F6 with F7 gusts and, as Martin said, 4-5 foot waves.

With waves occasionally breaking over the boats and the ability to surf the bigger ones on the run with the stern 4-5 feet above the bows it was excellent

Credit to all the competitors with only one capsize all day (why on the start line Ben ???)

Shame about the weather on Sunday . With mutual agreement between the Chief Race Officer and the competitors we stayed indoors for a Nick Dewhirst floor race until it was obvious that the flume blowing off the top of the white capped waves was not going to ease.

Full results and report to follow but congratulations to Kevin Ducth (1st), Erling Holmberg (2nd), Nick Dewhirst (3rd) and Martin Searle (1st Sport).

Special thanks to the patrol boat crews for Saturday - at one point one of the boats got caught by a stern wave which lifted the whole boat out of the water, threw the crewman over the bow and filled the boat with water. Credit to the helm and crew for recovering and emptying the boat in only a couple of minutes to remain on station.
