Many thanks to all who came to Seasalter ( 7 travellers and 5 home boats) for some really interesting sailing on Saturday. Steady F6 with F7 gusts and, as Martin said, 4-5 foot waves.
With waves occasionally breaking over the boats and the ability to surf the bigger ones on the run with the stern 4-5 feet above the bows it was excellent
Credit to all the competitors with only one capsize all day (why on the start line Ben ???)
Shame about the weather on Sunday
. With mutual agreement between the Chief Race Officer and the competitors we stayed indoors for a Nick Dewhirst floor race until it was obvious that the flume blowing off the top of the white capped waves was not going to ease.
Full results and report to follow but congratulations to Kevin Ducth (1st), Erling Holmberg (2nd), Nick Dewhirst (3rd) and Martin Searle (1st Sport).
Special thanks to the patrol boat crews for Saturday - at one point one of the boats got caught by a stern wave which lifted the whole boat out of the water, threw the crewman over the bow and filled the boat with water. Credit to the helm and crew for recovering and emptying the boat in only a couple of minutes to remain on station.
Good sailing to everyone
Steve
